This Week in Imaging: Canon, Xerox Financials, New Green Initiatives

This week, two of the big players in the printer/MFP industry reported earnings, with Xerox’s first-quarter earnings reflecting the impact of cost reductions, and Canon’s reflecting lower sales of cameras and industrial equipment. On the bright side for Canon, sales of copier/MFPs “remained firm,” and on the not-bright side for Xerox, equipment installations were down for the quarter – except for A4 color machines, as was revenue. Xerox management has said however that it doesn’t expect to see significant revenues for about three years.

Meanwhile, it’s beginning to look a lot greener out there – not just in the Northern Hemisphere, but also in the document-imaging industry. Notable companies that have stepped up with eco-friendly initiatives recently include Canon (see here), Lexmark (see here), and HP Inc. (see here). Xerox and others have also initiated eco-friendly programs that should also be noted.

Last, this week Xerox again appointed another former executive to its C-suite. Two other former HP execs are also members of Xerox’s management, and current CEO John Visentin is also formerly of HP.
