Static Control Says Toner-Cartridge Component Doesn’t Infringe on Canon Patents
Static Control issued a press release yesterday asserting that its dongle-gear solution for third-party non-OEM CF226A/X, CE505A/X, CF280A/X, CF287A/X and CE255A/X and other related toner cartridges used with HP laser printers doesn’t infringe on Canon patents, according to an order issued by Judge Dee Lord of the International Trade Commission (ITC) on February 28th.
Early last year, Canon Inc. had filed a massive legal complaint with the ITC against non-OEM, third-party toner-cartridge sellers, filing a complaint with the ITC against 49 manufacturers, distributors, and sellers. Canon also filed patent-infringement lawsuits in the United States against various companies. Among the companies that Canon included in its lawsuit were Static Control, Ninestar, Aster Graphics, Print-Rite, and others.
In regard to the new legal ruling, Static Control General Counsel Skip London stated:“Our stance from the very beginning of this was that our solution, marketed as SafeDrive, was just that – safe. This ruling proves what we’ve known all along. Our design was a unique, non-infringing solution.
“We pride ourselves on being the IP leader of the aftermarket,” London continued. “This is another instance that proves we take the necessary due diligence to give our customers the advantage of premium quality coupled with the most IP secure imaging solutions.”
