Samsung: Eliminate Print Servers and Save Big with Cloud Printing
by Kathleen Wirth · Published · Updated
Samsung Printing Solutions – now a part of HP Inc. – explains how businesses can reap substantial cost savings by taking their printing to the cloud and eliminating print servers:
According to a 451 Research study, 90 percent of businesses now use some type of cloud service, while 69 percent of enterprises will be operating in multi-cloud or hybrid IT environments by 2019.And with cloud printing now widespread, you may well be wondering if your company could ditch its servers – and take its printing operations online.
Fortunately, thanks to Samsung Printing’s wide range of cloud offerings, serverless and hybrid solutions, many companies will find going serverless relatively quick and easy.
So Long, Server?
Servers have long played a key role in printing. Companies with bigger fleets have traditionally chosen to work with servers, as these have let IT admins monitor and control their networks with relative ease.
Indeed, using servers has let admins to monitor permissions, security and expenditure, and manage print queues, drivers and software updates.
However, servers can be prohibitively expensive. As well as hardware costs, business owners also need to fork out regularly on electricity bills, operating system licenses, software, support networks, backup systems and maintenance overheads.
Core Fitness
With cloud-based or hybrid solutions, however, you can greatly reduce your dependence on servers – or wipe it out completely. The SMB-friendly Business Core suite, for example, provides a seamless user experience for improved productivity, security and convenience, all without the bother and cost of servers.
The suite comprises five core solutions. These include the Cloud Connector Core, which provides straightforward, secure, access to the cloud for printing and scanning tasks, removing the need to route through PCs. With the Secure Login Core, meanwhile, you can start using safer, easier authentication methods to boost security. The Usage Tracker Core allows for advanced auditing options, letting you to see how much individual users, devices or groups of users are printing – and what costs they accrue. The Document Workflow Corelets you start automating your workflows, incorporating scanning, OCR and other tasks, thus boosting efficiency. And, finally, the Printing Security Core provides secure document management options, including pull printing.
Going Beyond
By eliminating the need for servers, your company can find itself making savings. And with RAM prices currently going “through the roof,” there has never been a better time than right now to think about cutting out – or reducing – your dependence on servers.
Fortunately, Samsung’s serverless printing offerings extend beyond the Business Core suite, encompassing mobile apps and even the very platforms many of its printers are built on. For instance, the Samsung Cloud Print app lets your staff enjoy the benefits of cloud printing even when they are on the move, letting them print from mobiles, laptops or other devices to remote printers via the cloud – printing documents in a jiffy when at hotels, airports, universities, schools and libraries, using their cellphone numbers as authentication.
And as many Samsung devices are built using the eXtensible Open Architecture Embedded (XOA-E) platform – such as the new ProXpress M4560FX – there are even more ways to save on your office tech expenses. The XOA-E platform is a fully functioning Java machine that is open in nature. This means you can essentially customize your printers as you see fit – without the need to install extra servers. You can use XOA-E architecture to modify existing base platforms on your devices, make crucial system modifications and download a broad range of tailored services.
Cost-effective and Stress-free
In many areas of office tech, migrating from servers to the cloud is complicated and difficult.
But fortunately, thanks to Samsung Cloud Print, Business Core 2.5, the XOA-E platform and more, cloud printing is actually much easier than you may think. With Samsung solutions, you can move away from a costly, server-based business model – and toward a flexible, serverless future.”
