RISO to Enter Business-Inkjet Market with New 120-PPM ComColor FW MFPs

Massachusetts-based RISO, Inc., best known for high-speed, cut-sheet inkjet printing for higher production-levels print volumes, reports that on June 15th, it will introduce the ComColor FW Series of copier/MFPs, which specifically target the business inkjet segment and office use. According to RISO, this is the fifth generation of its cut-sheet, color-inkjet printers that it’s brought to the U.S. market.

The firm  says that the FW series is 33-percent slimmer in size than previous models due to an integrated face-down paper tray, and that it’s also redesigned the color touchscreen, which it’s completely adjustable and customizable. RISO says it’s also improved scanning for office use, and that the MFPs can scan both sides of a two-sided document simultaneously at 100 ppm.

The new lineup is designed to serve the requirements of the business-inkjet market segment – specifically, those users who require the “high production print speed and advanced capabilities that a RISO system can provide, but don’t necessarily require the high volume output of a production printer.”

According to specifications published by RISO’s parent company, RISO Kagaku of Japan, the ComColor FW Series consists of three configurations:

• The ComColor FW5230, an A3 MFP (print and scan on up to 11″ x 17″) with multiple paper trays, and which prints at up to 120 ppm in color (A4 simplex mode) and up to 60 ppm in A4 duplex mode.
• The ComColor FW5231, also an A3 MFP with a standard paper tray and which also prints at up 120 ppm in color (A4 simplex mode) and up to 60 ppm in A4 duplex mode.
• The ComColor 5000, an A4 MFP (print and scan on up to 8.5″x 14″) that prints at up to 90 ppm in color (simplex mode) and at up to 45 ppm in duplex mode).

The new MFPs are described as using oil-based pigment inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), with resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi. They feature an  Ethernet network interface and 500-GB hard drive

Options for the series include:

• A 200-page duplexing automatic document scanner for copy and scan functionality, and for scanning in black-and-white or color.
• Document finisher with offset stacking and stapling.
• Document finishing with offset stacking, stapling, document-punching, document-folding, and booklet-making.
• Document Z-folder.
• Two options for stacking output.
• User-authentication card kit.
• Envelope feeder.
• Card feeder.
• A PS kit that provides tray selection per page, color profiles, and form overlay.

ComColor inkjet printers use RISO’s FORCEJET technology that’s used exclusively in the RISO inkjet product line. RISO says that this heat-less imaging system requires no fusing (as with laser printers) during the printing process, and that ComColor printers feature a short, straight paper path, enabling fast print speeds in full color, and “cold, flat and dry output” that’s said to be ideal for transitioning output with document-finishing equipment.
