OEM Toner-Cartridge Revenues Increase in Western Europe
London-based IT market-research firm Context reports that OEM toner-cartridge revenues across Western European increased by 2 percent year-over-year in the first 22 weeks of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.
According to data published by Context, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) toner-cartridge revenues were driven by Average Selling Prices (ASPs), which increased by 5 percent year-over-year, despite a decline of distribution sales by 3 percent year-over-year for the period. The ASP effect was not witnessed for the compatible toners market, where ASPs declined by 9 percent in 2014 year-to-date, therefore unit sales and revenues increased by 16 percent and 6 percent respectively across Western European countries such as Spain, France,Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
“Following the recent downturn during the recession, OEM toner sales are recovering in Spain, Italy, and Germany which has helped to lift some vendors’ performance”, said Zivile Brazdziunaite, imaging market analyst at Context. “This is the case in particular for Xerox, which registered the highest OEM toner year-on-year unit sales growth of +32 percent, as well as a significant increase in revenues for the period was witnessed.” On the other hand, HP saw unit sales decline by 7 percent and revenues reduced by 3 percent year-over-year for the same reporting period. HP expects soft toner sales to continue in Europe for the rest of the year.
Meanwhile, in terms of vendor market share, HP holds 46 percent share in the original toner category, followed by Samsung with 17 percent, and Lexmark and Brother each at 8 percent each in 2014 year-to-date.
