Review and Report: HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One with Videos and Photo Gallery
The Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One ($99.99) is Hewlett-Packard’s entry-level full-color ink-jet All-in-One with Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless connectivity, and replaces the Officejet 4500. Designed for small offices and workgroups (from one to five users), the Officejet 4620 adds several improvements: four separate ink cartridges (versus one black cartridge and a tri-color ink cartridge), re-designed control panel, internal power supply (no external power brick), higher monthly duty cycle (3,000 pages), and mobile printing (supports AirPrint and HP’s ePrint), as well as faster print speed (ISO 8.0/7.5 ppm). Also new is convenient access to the back of the paper path from the front of the unit.
Mobile Printing
The Officejet 4620 is strong on mobile printing, with three mobile-printing solutions supported: HP ePrint; HP’s ePrint Home & Biz application for Android, iOS and Symbian; and Apple AirPrint support for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch iOS mobile devices, plus Google Cloud Printing.
Summary of our Hands-On Test
Throughout testing, the Officejet 4260 performed faultlessly, with no misfeed or image-quality problems observed, software worked correctly the first time and throughout, and hardware, software and wireless installation setup is uncomplicated. In short, it didn’t try our patience at any point, but performed like a champ throughout. Cost per page at 4.1¢ (black)/11.37¢ (color) is reasonable for this segment, as well as for sub-$500 color ink-jet and laser All-in-Ones. The system has also been re-designed from the ground up, with new compact footprint and a reduction in height (it’s not much larger or taller than a standalone printer), new print engine, four separate ink cartridges that are very easy to access, impressive text and photo quality, and it provides wireless connectivity and strong mobile printing solutions, both of which aren’t always provided in this segment – all at the same price point as its predecessor. It’ll be especially appealing to users who require easy mobile printing (and it doesn’t get any easier than ePrint for just e-mailing your job to the printer). Overall, it offers a lot of bang for the buck at a very affordable acquisition price ($99.99). For SOHO use and micro offices with light print volumes, the Officejet 4620 will be a great performer with a very attractive price and feature set, and is an Outstanding choice.
