New Canon IRISPowerscan 10 for Automating Document Workflows
Canon U.S.A. today announced IRISPowerscan 10 for use with its document scanners and copier/MFPs. Using the I.R.I.S. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon) platform along with Canon’s product portfolio, software, and services, Canon says IRISPowerscan 10 can be optimized to work in both vertical and horizontal market segments to intelligently classify, index, and extract information from business documents, correspondence, and forms.
IRISPowerscan 10 features high-volume scanning, classification, and indexing from any source to virtually any destination. The platform is said to provide customers with a simple and efficient means of capturing both paper and electronic information for ad hoc document scanning and/or automating business processes.
In addition to supporting Canon’s standalone document scanners and select copier/MFPs, such as the Canon imageFORMULA document scanners and Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE copier/MFPs, IRISPowerscan can also be used with TWAIN and ISIS compliant scanners. With OCR and patented document compression capabilities, Canon says customers will benefit from more accurate document recognition, advanced image processing, flexible file conversion and output, and suitability for high-volume scanning.

Multi-Channel Capture. IRISPowerscan 10 supports TWAIN and ISIS compliant scanners, can import files manually or from a MFP, and is able to scan directly from the Cloud (Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint). Image-adjustment tools are available to improve the quality of images (deskew, rotation, despeckle, split/merge, etc.).
Advanced Classification. IRISPowerscan 10 performs automatic classification of various documents types using to barcodes, patch codes, OCR/ICR zones, and more. The IRISFingerprint layout recognition technology can learn what documents look like and identify their type without the need for any labels or barcodes.
High-Accuracy Indexing. IRISPowerscan 10 features advanced indexing through a customizable interface (barcodes, patch codes, OCR, ICR, etc.) and is able to extract accounting data, as well as line items. Complete index files containing all relevant data and metadata can be created in XML or CSV format. The Data Source function allows for any index value to be retrieved and/or validated through an ODBC data source.
One-Click Validation. IRISPowerscan 10 uses verification technologies that help to identify incorrect indexes. Users are prompted and are able to quickly proceed through index validation with Highlight OCR, keyboard shortcuts, auto-zooming, etc.
OCR & Compression. OCR in over 130 languages and variations, convert to many document formats (PDF, PDF/A, XPS, TXT, RTF, DOC, XML, TIFF single or multi-page, BMP, JPEG, PDF image, etc.) and keep productivity and cost-efficiency under control with IRIS’ unique file PDF and PDF/A hyper-compression technology.
Customizable Connectors and Export. IRISPowerscan 10 integrates with document folders, email, printers, third-party application (e.g. Therefore), as well as with multiple Cloud services (Box, Dropbox, OneDrive for Business, Google Drive, and SharePoint Online).
