New Canon imageRUNNER Advance 3rd Edition with Beefed-Up Security
Canon U.S.A. today previewed its new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 3rd edition platform, which features optional Security Information Event Management (SIEM) integration and other cybersecurity feature enhancements designed to provide activity monitoring and threat detection. These capabilities are said to extend beyond traditional MFP security features.
This is the first line of MFPs from Canon to incorporate SIEM integration. SIEM solutions collect and analyze machine data from across an organization’s IT environment to provide organizations with real-time indicators of potential security violations.
According to Canon, many organizations currently relying on SIEM systems are either manually importing data from their printers and copier/MFPs into SIEM, or not including their printers and MFPs in SIEM monitoring at all. In contrast, the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs are said to make it possible to easily include printers and MFPs in a company’s existing comprehensive security monitoring.
Other security features include Verify System at Startup, a process of using a Root of Trust (RoT) to help protect the device boot code, firmware, and applications from unauthorized modification, and automatic security certificate updates to help reduce the burden on IT teams.
In the coming months, Canon says it plans to offer further development in the information-security area by continuing to enhance its product integration in areas such as runtime detection to help further protect against intrusion.
The new Canon MFP lineup also includes improved optical character recognition (OCR) accuracy with IRIS PDF for document scanning for better data records, and there’s also a more intuitive user experience at the touchscreen. One of touchscreen’s new home screen’s features is a timeline feature that enables users to recall previous job settings by user.
Canon is also introducing enhancements to cloud-based solutions for enhanced workflow efficiency. To help users more easily access scan profiles, print from available cloud destinations at their imageRUNNER ADVANCE device, and more easily track usage by specific departments, updates to the optional Canon uniFLOW Online solution include Print from Cloud, Scan Template Library, and Central Department Management and Reporting, respectively.
Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A., commented: “Enterprises are in a transformative time, and the harsh reality is that with such disruptive innovation can come hacks, data attacks, and other security vulnerabilities that pose risk to an organization’s confidential information. We integrated new security features at the design level of the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE models to help equip our customers with a comprehensive enterprise solution that can help improve business efficiency.
“It is our intention that continuous development of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE portfolio through ongoing product updates, new features through our Unified Firmware Platform and tight collaboration with solutions like uniFLOW Online can help secure and improve customer document workflows now, and into the Office of the Future.”
The following third generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE 3rd edition models are scheduled to be available in the coming months: imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4500 III Series, imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6500 III Series, imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8500 III Series, imageRUNNER ADVANCE C356iF III Series, imageRUNNER ADVANCE C3500 III Series, imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5500 III Series, and imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7500 III Series.
