Latest Epson Software Update Said to Block Use of Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
According to Griffin Hampson from the Cartridge Network, Epson’s latest software update appears to be blocking the use of remanufactured, non-Epson ink cartridges with Epson printers. The update appears to be affecting Epson printers that use Epson T288, T288Xl, T410, T410XL, XP530, XP630, XP640 and XP830 ink cartridges. This issue not only affects third-party counterfeit ink cartridges sold on Web sites such as Amazon, but also third-party-branded remanufactured ink cartridges. Hampson also states that new cartridge chips are under design and should soon be available to third-party remanufacturers.
For those who haven’t recently updated their Epson printer software, their Epson printer should continue to operate as usual. If they’re using remanufactured Epson print cartridges, perform the following steps:
Right click on the Epson printer icon in the taskbar and select “Software Update Settings.”
Set the “Driver Update” setting to “Never.”
Two years ago, HP Inc. also roused customers’ ire when a routine software update blocked the use of non-HP cartridges with HP printers. HP issued an apology and a software update to unblock use of third-party cartridges.
