Lantronix xPrintServer Enables Cloud-Print Devices to Wirelessly Print to Networked or USB-Connected Printers Anywhere
California-based Lantronix, Inc., a global provider of smart M2M (machine-to-machine) connectivity solutions, today launched its new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition mobile- printing device. The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition enables a user’s supported printers to print using cloud-print technology from Android OS mobile devices, as well as from any device running Google’s Chrome browser and Chrome operating system (ChromeOS). The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is the latest edition to Lantronix’s xPrintServer family of products, joining the xPrintServer – Home Edition and xPrintServer – Office Edition, which enable native mobile printing from iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone. The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is the first and only print server certified by Google to support cloud print technology, and is available for pre-order today at Lantronix.com.
Google Cloud Print is a technology that connects printers to the Web. With Google Cloud Print, users can make their home and work printers available to anyone they choose. Google Cloud Print works on smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, PCs, and any other Web-connected devices. When printing through Google Cloud Print, files are securely sent over the Web to any designated printer, be it in the same location as the user, or anywhere in the world.
Roughly the size of a smartphone, Lantronix’s new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is a hardware solution for cloud printing that requires no additional software downloads or print-driver installations. It provides automatic printer discovery and configuration. To install the device, Lantronix says users simply open the box, plug the xPrintServer into the network, and it automatically links all user IDs to all printers on the network, enabling cloud printing in minutes.
The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition supports any device (tablet, smartphone, PC, laptop, and more) running Google’s Chrome browser – one of the most popular browsers in the world, with more than 310 million active users globally in 2013, according to Google. The product also supports business users of Google Apps – a cloud-based productivity suite by Google that helps businesses connect and get work done from anywhere on any device. Current market estimates peg the number of businesses using Google Apps, Google Docs, and Chromebooks to exceed 10 million.
Lantronix will showcase the Cloud Print Edition at Digital Experience on January 6, 2014, the evening prior to the 2014 International CES in Las Vegas. At the event, attendees will see the xPrintServer in action – enabling Cloud Print users to print directly from their mobile devices.
“With millions of businesses adopting smart devices in the workplace, more and more are seeking easy to adopt printing solutions that allow them to cost-effectively leverage their existing networked printers,” commented Kurt Busch, Lantronix president and CEO. “The launch of our new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition rounds out our xPrintServer family by addressing more than half of the multi-billion dollar mobile printing market. In addition to providing users of Android and Chrome-based devices with the ability to print to any supported printer from any device – the new xPrintServer allows users to print to their printer from anywhere in the world using cloud print technology. It also works seamlessly with Google’s increasingly popular portfolio of business productivity tools and services such as Google Apps and Google Docs.”
