Lantronix xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition for Android and Chromebook Printing Now Available
Lantronix today announced the worldwide availability of its new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition mobile-printing device ($149.95 MSRP). The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition enables a user’s supported printers to print using cloud-print technology from Android OS mobile devices, as well as any device running Google’s Chrome browser and Chrome operating system (ChromeOS). It essentially makes USB- and network-connected printers Google Cloud Print ready, enabling instant wireless printing of photos, email messages, Web pages, and documents from Google Cloud Print-enabled smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, and PCs. Roughly the size of a smartphone, the hardware solution for cloud printing requires no additional software downloads or print-driver installations. Up to 10 networked printers, and up to eight USB-connected printers are supported; an Internet connection is also required.
The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is the latest edition to Lantronix’ PrintServer family of products, joining the xPrintServer – Home Edition and xPrintServer – Office Edition, which enable native mobile printing from Apple iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone. The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is the first and only print server certified by Google to support cloud-print technology. When printing through Google Cloud Print, print files are securely sent over the Web to any designated printer, whether it’s at same location as the user or on another continent
Key features and benefits include:
- Print to existing printers – no need to buy new printers.
- Automatic discovery and setup of printers.
- Print from your smartphone, tablet, Chromebook, laptop, or PC
- Supports thousands of USB-, network-, and wireless-connected printers.
- Administrative and security settings are easily accessible and managed via a Web-based interface
- Google Cloud Print-ready.
- To install, plug the Lantronix xPrintserver into your network (router, switch, or LAN with wireless access point), then plug your USB printers into the Lantronix xPrintServer. Within seconds the xPrintServer will auto-discover your network- and USB-connected printers. Then simply link the xPrintServer to your Google account to begin printing.
The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition supports Android devices (smartphones, tablets), and any device (tablet, smartphone, PC, laptop and more) running Google’s Chrome browser. Market research firm IHS iSuppli recently reported that in 2013, cumulative shipments of Android smartphones exceeded one billion units, with Android shipments estimated to approach three billion cumulative units by 2016. Google’s Chrome browser is one of the most popular browsers in the world, with more than 310 million active users globally in 2013, according to Google.
The xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition also supports business users of Google Apps – a cloud-based productivity suite from Google that helps businesses connect from anywhere on any device. Current market estimates peg the number of businesses using Google Apps, Google Docs, and Chromebooks to exceed 10 million in 2014.
The new xPrintServer – Cloud Print Edition is currently available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe at Lantronix.com, Amazon.com, and other retailers and e-tailers, as well as through the company’s global-distribution network.
