Kyocera’s Fiscal-Year Results Down, But Some Quarterly Improvement
Kyocera Corporation of Kyoto, Japan, today reported financial results for its fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2021.
Net sales were ¥1,526 billion, down 4.5 percent year-over-year. Operating profit was ¥70.6 billion, down 29.5 percent year-over-year. Net profit was ¥90.2 billion, down 16.3 percent year-over-year.
Earnings per share for the year were ¥248.9, versus ¥297.36 for the previous fiscal year.
Kyocera stated that profits decreased as compared with the previous fiscal year due to a decrease in sales revenue and also an increase in depreciation charges, as well as the recording of a one-time ¥11.5 billion loss for Kyocera’s smart energy business.
Document Solutions Group
Full-year sales revenue for the Document Solutions Group (copier/MFPs, printers, supplies, etc.) was ¥316.2 billion, down 12.1 percent year-over-year. Kyocera noted that despite a recovery for this group since hitting “rock-bottom” in the first quarter (April to June 2020), demand was lower than in the previous fiscal year, with sales of equipment and consumables declining.
Business profit for the group was ¥28.7 billion, down 16.6 percent year-over-year.
Fourth Quarter
Kyocera showed improvements in sales revenue and operating profit for its fourth quarter ((January to March 31, 2021).
For Kyocera’s fiscal fourth quarter, sales revenue was ¥426.3 billion, an increase versus ¥402.1 billion for the fourth quarter a year earlier, and an increase versus third-quarter sales revenue of ¥404.4 billion.
Fourth-quarter operating profit was ¥27.6 billion, an increase versus ¥5.3 billion for the fourth quarter a year earlier, and an increase versus third-quarter operating profit of ¥18.9 billion.
Fourth-quarter net profit was ¥26.2 billion, an increase versus ¥6.4 billion for the fourth quarter a year earlier, but down versus third-quarter net profit of ¥29.5 billion.
Fourth-quarter sales revenue for the Document Solutions Group was ¥90.1 billion, a decline versus sales revenue of ¥92.3 billion for the fourth quarter a year earlier. Business profit for the group was ¥10.4 billion, an increase versus profit of ¥6.9 billion for the fourth quarter a year earlier, but a decline versus ¥12.3 billion in business profit for the third quarter.
Forecast
For its fiscal year that will end on March 31, 2022, Kyocera is forecasting ¥1,730 billion in net sales, up 13.3 percent year-over-year. It’s also forecasting operating profit of ¥117 billion, up 65.6 percent year-over-year.
For net profit, it’s forecasting ¥113 billion, up 25.3 percent year-over-year.
Overall, it’s forecasting record-high sales for components for 5G and semiconductors.
