Konica Minolta Appoints New President and CEO
Konica Minolta, Inc. of Tokyo, Japan, today announced that it’s appointed a new president and CEO. The company appointed Toshimitsu Taiko to the position of president and CEO. Taiko was previously director, senior executive vice president, and executive officer at Konica Minolta. He replaces Shoei Yamana, who will now serve as director, executive chairman, and executive officer.
Business-Portfolio Transformation
Konica Minolta noted that its Medium-term Business Plan “DX2022” aims to complete two business portfolio transformations through its fiscal-year 2025. To this end, it says it’s accelerating its shift to the Digital Workplace Business by leveraging the customer base of its Office Printing Business, and shifting to highly profitable businesses by expanding growth in the measurement, inspection, and diagnosis fields, centered on its strength of imaging Internet of Things.
It also noted that since the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, the business environment has changed dramatically. Turning around its Office and Production Print Businesses, as the company’s core businesses, as soon as possible, and further enhancing the Industry Business that drives earnings generation, Healthcare Business and Industrial Business, are an urgent management issue, and it needs to strengthen its execution capabilities.
Konica Minolta’s fiscal-year 2022 is the final year of its Medium-term Business Plan “DX2022” and the year for formulating its next business plan. The company made the decision that it was appropriate to change its president and CEO at this time so that the new president and CEO will be able to formulate the new Medium-term Business Plan himself, and to maximize execution capability.
In selecting a new president and CEO, an external organization assessed candidates submitted by the current president and CEO. Each candidate was requested to prepare a development plan and a nominating committee decided to choose Toshimitsu Taiko as the new president and CEO.
Toshimitsu Taiko
Toshimitsu Taiko has led Konica Minolta’s Business Technologies Business, the mainstay of Konica Minolta, including management at overseas subsidiaries. During that time, Taiko is said to have also pu new businesses on a steady track and maintained existing businesses, while bringing together complex organizations.
Since fiscal-year 2020, as senior executive vice president and executive officer, Taiko has been responsible for corporate planning, investor relations, and corporate communications.
