Ingram Micro Launches Managed Print Services Program

Global distributor of IT products Ingram Micro has launched a new managed print services (MPS) program designed to enable its IT channel printers to not just sell customers printers and copiers, but to also increase their revenue and profits by selling them supplies and service for those devices.

Ingram Micro notes that demand for MPS is on the rise, with, for instance, Transparency Market Research, forecasting that MPS will expand at a 14.8 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2024.

MPS for HP Inc. and Xerox Printers

Called Ingram Micro MPS, the program features bundled solutions from HP Inc. and Xerox that include a printer(s), supplies, and services package. Under a monthly MPS program, partners can charge a monthly service and supply fee, based on the customer’s page count need, service plan, and type of printer (monochrome, color, or copier/MFP) – said to be a desirable option for small and mid-size businesses and other organizations that don’t print at high enough volumes to justify a high cost per page.

Ingram Micro points out that its MPS plan will provide its channel partners with an ongoing source of revenue, and is an easy way to increase revenue and margins by attaching supplies to every printer sale.

Mike Erwin, executive director of  Vendor Management, Business and Consumer Solutions at Ingram Micro, told CRN: “In general, I think this is a market, regardless of which manufacturer … that’s under-penetrated. We think it’s a market that no one out there is really serving. We’re doing this in a way to make it very easy for our resellers to support the guy in that market.”

Erwin said that its partners may sell their IT customer a printer, but “leave behind the supplies and service.” He said Ingram Micro “has made it easy to capture those dollars as well. He said Ingram Micro MPS features bundled solutions from leading vendors – currently HP Inc. and Xerox — all under one simple monthly solution that can be white-labeled and invoiced directly on the channel partners’ behalf.

Erwin said that under the MPS program, Ingram Micro sets up data-capture software upon installation to keep track of toner usage. He pointed out that Ingram Micro manages all toner shipments and billing on behalf of channel partners.
