Hands-On Test Report, Videos, Photo Gallery: Brother’s ImageCenter ADS-3000N Document Scanner
Test Results and Observations
Tested Scan Speed
In the tests, duplex originals with equal amounts of CYMK (cyan, yellow, magenta, black) text and a total of 5% area coverage were scanned as fast as 51.5 opm in simplex mode and 103 ipm in duplex mode, which is faster than Brother’s rated scan speed of 50/100 ipm.
Original Handling
The document-feeding mechanism has been significantly upgraded with beefier feed rollers and the ability to feed embossed ID cards without the need for a clear plastic sleeve. However, we had some difficulty feeding an old embossed credit card, but experienced reliable original-handling otherwise, with no misfeeding, double-feeding, etc., occurring.
Feature Set
As stated, the ADS-3000N has a feature set that is considerably watered-down when compared to other ImageCenter scanners that we;ve have tested – but this is because the features set is focused on office workgroups. There is a 50-sheet/50 opm automatic document feeder with single-pass duplex scanning; TWAIN, WIA, ICA and ISIS scan drivers; and the ability to scan ID cards (including embossed cards), business cards, fragile originals and originals as large as 8.5″ x 196″.
Brother also provides its typically generous suite of software that includes: ABBYY FineReader Professional 11; ABBYY PDF Transformer Plus (Windows); Nuance PaperPort 14SE (Windows); ControlCenter 4 (Windows); and ControlCenter 2 (Mac).
