Hands-On Test Report, Videos, Photo Gallery: Brother’s ImageCenter ADS-3000N Document Scanner
We recently completed Hands-On Testing of Brother’s ImageCenter ADS-3000N desktop document scanner ($699.99). This new model takes a different approach to scanning than the tested ADS-2500W and ADS-2500We models that we tested a while back. The different approach is that the ADS-3000N is designed for ease of use in the office, whereas its predecessors incorporated touch screens that included scan to social-network functionality (such as scan to Facebook) and support for mobile devices – however these features are likely only be a distraction in an office or industrial environment, and have been omitted. Its daily scan volume has also been increased from 1,500 scans, to 5,000 scans per day.
Other key design changes include double the scanning speed (100 versus 48 images per minute [ipm]), elimination of the fold-down smoked cover, sturdier original and output supports, integrated scan to Microsoft SharePoint, Gigabit Ethernet wired networking, and significantly more robust document-original feed rollers (with a life of 200,000 scans versus 50,000 scans). It can no longer scan to email servers, ostensibly for security purposes. There’s also no WiFi networking support, but not to worry, there’s also the new Brother ImageCenter ADS-2800W ($499.99) and ADS-3600W ($799.99) models that feature WiFi networking, as well as the familiar 3.7″ swipeable touch screens, and the advanced feature set found on the previously tested models.
Like its predecessors, the ImageCenter ADS-3000N’s features include: scan to File Transfer Protocol (FTP) sites, network folders, USB flash-memory devices, and desktop email; single-pass scanning of two-sided originals, and a generous assortment of document-management software.
