Hands-On Test Report, Photos, and Video: Another Rare ‘True’ Large-Format All-in-One: Brother’s INKvestment MFC-J6925dw

The MFC-J6925dw has three media trays and all can accept media as large as A3/11″x17″.

Trays 1 and 2 can be expanded to hold media as large as A3/11″x17″. Note that A4/Letter-sized media loads long-edge first.

Loading and servicing media was easy, but the output tray is attached to tray 1 and tray 2 has an attached cover. The trays must be removed in order to load media and the attached covers must be swung out of the way in order to adjust for different media sizes. As far as the rear single-sheet slot is concerned, space is required behind the unit during use and installed media droops down due to lack of a media-support device.

Build Quality
Build quality is surprisingly good and many convenient details are built into the unit such as the adjustable touch panel, media port cover, front-loading ink cartridges, internal cable routing and folding DADF cover. However, the unit’s light weight caused it to slide around on the desktop when fiddling with the trays and ink supplies–a very minor inconvenience when the quality of the whole package is taken into consideration.

Reliability
We experienced no misfeeds, image quality anomalies, or maintenance difficulties while testing. This, coupled with notable build quality indicates that the MFC-J6925dw should provide competitive reliability throughout its lifetime.
