Fuji Xerox Launches 20 Color MFPs, New Facial-Recognition Technology for User Authentication

Fuji Xerox LogoFuji Xerox is launching 20 full-color MFPs with its new ApeosPort-V C and DocuCentre-V C series, all of which will be available in the Asia-Pacific region, and 14 of which feature optional facial-recognition technology for user authentication.Calling them flagship products, Fuji Xerox says all of these 20 MFPs incorporate its latest controller software to provide universal operability.

Facial-Recognition Technology

Fourteen of the MFPs also feature optional Smart WelcomEyes Advance, and enhanced Smart WelcomEyes—Fuji Xerox’s proprietary motion-sensor technology. According to Fuji Xerox, the MFPs’ human-detection camera detects the movements of people around the MFP to determine whether a person is going to use the device, or simply passing by, while a facial-recognition camera recognizes the face of the user standing in front of the MFP for user authentication. Once the function identifies the user, it automatically recalls the user’s personalized menu screen. Fuji Xerox says the MFPs recover from sleep mode in just 3.1 seconds after a user approaches the device.

9″ Touch Screen

All of the MFPs are equipped with a 9″, icon-based touch screen that’s operated with “flick” and “drag” operation. The company also says it’s enhanced the touch screen’s document-preview mode, allowing users to quickly see the document before printing or faxing it.

A free add-on application called Easy UI Solution 2.0 enables users to customize the touch screen’s menu screens to their needs. For instance, there’s Easy Copy, which stores individual users’ frequently used copy settings so that the user can quickly recall them. Images can be previewed on the touch screen, and settings adjusted as needed.

ScanAuto enables scanning by simply pressing the start button without having to configure complicated settings. It detects whether the document is double-sided or single-sided, which direction it is placed, while automatically eliminating blank pages and adjusting document orientation

All of the new 20 models also can be equipped with an optional Server-Less On-Demand Print function, so that users can print documents from another MFP when the MFP they first sent the job to is in use.  Up to five Fuji Xerox MFPs are supported. Mobile printing from Android and Apple iOS devices is also supported via two free apps.

Smart Energy Management Technology

The new MFPs use Fuji Xerox’s proprietary Smart Energy Management technology. This technology contributes to reducing power consumption and CO2 emissions by distributing power only to the device functions (the auto duplex scanning unit, control panel, output unit, or controller) that are needed depending on the type of jobs to be performed. As only the required section is powered, the MFPs also don’t emit unnecessary noise. Users can utilize the control panel almost immediately to specify job settings while the other required sections are reactivating.

Fuji Xerox also says one of the new MFPs has also achieved energy consumption of just 0.99 kilowatt per hour, a more than 10-percent improvement compared to the previous model.
