Amazon Obtains 3D-Printing Production System Patent
SupplyChain Dive reports that Amazon now has a patent for a 3D-printing production system that will accepts custom order for either delivery or pick-up.
Amazon currently has a 3D-printing store on its Web site, but the store simply sells 3D printers and scanners, filaments, and parts. The store also sells 3D-printed items that can be customized by size, color, material, and/or with personal text and images.
The new patent specifies retail distribution for custom-3D-printed items that Amazon would either deliver or customers would pick up. SupplyChain Dive suggests that Amazon could be going after hardware items, competing with stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menard’s, providing 3D-printed for fixing furniture, appliances and other items.
Currently, Amazon has yet to introduce a program for the patent.
