HP Targets Industrial 3D Printing with New Jet Fusion 5200 Industrial 3D Printer, Expanded Siemens Partnership

HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D Printing Solution

HP Inc. continued its 3D-printing evolution, advancing into the industrial segment, with its introduction today of the Jet Fusion 5200 Series, which is designed for industrial parts manufacturing, and which is integrated with Siemens’ Digital Enterprise offering to enable mid-volume plastic parts production by automotive and industrial customers.

HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D Printing Solution

HP states that its new Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printer provides high-quality and optimal-yield of parts at industrial levels of efficiency, as well as accuracy, and repeatability, and best-in-class economics and productivity for production environments. It’s also said to provide the increased flexibility, improved uptime, streamlined workflows, and simplified fleet management required for factory production settings.

New data intelligence, software, and services capabilities, including the HP 3D Process Control and HP 3D Center software offerings and the HP 3D Parts Assessment service, are said to enable customers to achieve new heights of operational efficiency and repeatability, and identify and optimize production of new 3D-printing applications.

New Thermoplastic Material

HP also introduced a new certified thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), ULTRASINT developed by partner BASF, to expand the range of final-parts applications for customers on the new Jet Fusion 5200 Series systems.

The new TPU is said to be ideal for flexible and elastic parts and complements HP High Reusability[i] PA-12, PA-12 Glass Beads, and PA-11 materials, with more coming in the future.

HP says that numerous companies across the automotive, industrial, consumer goods, and manufacturing sectors are exploring new applications for the new Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printing solution, including Avid Product Development, BASF, Jaguar Land Rover, Kupol, Materialise, Sculpteo, Prodartis, and Vestas.

Deepens Industrial Alliances to Drive Digital Manufacturing 

HP today also unveiled expanded alliances with a number of industrial leaders.

BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, and HP are expanding their alliance to deliver BASF materials certified for use with HP’s new 3D printing solutions.  The two companies will also partner to  help customers design and develop new applications with this unique combination of materials science and 3D-printing capabilities.

BASF and HP are already working with Vestas, the world’s largest provider of wind turbines, and Sculpteo, a provider of 3D design and production services, on new applications produced with BASF’s ULTRASINT TPU on HP Jet Fusion 3D printing systems.

Materialise, a 3D-printing services and software leader, and HP are extending their partnership to integrate the new HP Jet Fusion 5200 and HP Jet Fusion 500/300 3D printing solutions with Materialise’s Build Processor and Materialise Magics 3D Print Suite.

As an early customer of the new Jet Fusion 5200 3D printing solution, Materialise is also identifying and developing new  applications for customers using the new BASF TPU and other available HP 3D printing materials.  Materialise is also an initial partner of the new HP Digital Manufacturing Network, leveraging HP 3D printing technologies to deliver parts at scale for the European market.

HP also expanded its strategy with Siemens.

Siemens and HP will expand their integrated additive manufacturing solution, incorporating new systems and software innovations including overall product lifecycle management (PLM), AM factory optimization, industrial 3D printing, and data intelligence, manufacturing execution, and performance analytics.

HP says its new Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printer along with Siemens’ Digital Enterprise offerings will enable industry to bring 3D-printed parts to market faster, more cost-effectively, more sustainably, and at higher volumes than ever before.

The two companies announced the expanded alliance at an event to celebrate the addition of a new Polymer Competency Center to the Siemens Additive Manufacturing Experience Center (AMEC) in Erlangen, Germany, where HP also unveiled its new industrial-performance HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series.

The expanded additive manufacturing solution from Siemens and HP integrates hardware, software, data intelligence, and services to optimize the efficiency of the entire manufacturing process, from design and simulation through production planning, execution, quality, and control.

The solution combines HP’s 3D printing and 3D data platform, including the new HP Jet Fusion 5200 system, with Siemens Digital Industries Software, including Siemens NX CAD/CAE, NX AM for HP Multi Jet Fusion software module with direct printer interface, undergoing certification by HP for its Jet Fusion 5200 Series to be available later this year, as well as Teamcenter for PLM, Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, Simatic IT for manufacturing execution, and MindSphere for performance analytics and Industrial IoT.

The cooperation is coupled with the new Siemens Polymer Competency Center, which will be the focal point for the two companies to work jointly with automotive and industrial customers to create unique product designs, bring 3D-printed parts to market faster, and set up digital factory environments that unleash the full potential of additive manufacturing.

HP, Siemens, and their customers will initially new applications in areas such as personalization, fluid dynamics optimization, and energy absorption.

HP Launches Digital Manufacturing Network

Also today, HP introduced the new HP Digital Manufacturing Network, a global community of HP production partners to help design, produce, and deliver both plastic and metal parts at scale leveraging HP 3D printing solutions.

Members of the HP Digital Manufacturing Network are said to possess high levels of advanced additive manufacturing expertise, robust quality management, and end-to-end manufacturing processes, as well as a proven capability for volume job production.

The HP Digital Manufacturing Network initially includes partners in the United States, Asia, and Europe.  Digital Manufacturing Network production partners who have met HP’s program qualifications include Forecast 3D, GKN Powder Metallurgy, GoProto, Jabil, Materialise, Parmatech, and ZiggZagg NV.  HP will further expand the network into other target markets with additional qualified partners in the coming months.
