Canon Requests Removal of More Third-Party Toner Cartridges from Amazon

This week, Canon Inc. of Tokyo, Japan, filed three actions with Amazon requesting the removal of third-party toner cartridges from the Amazon website.

Canon filed a Report Infringement Form with Amazon.co.uk based on the alleged use of claim 1 and 25 of the U.K. portion of Canon’s European Patent EP 2 087 407 regarding the toner cartridge model “CF280X” offered by Zhuhaishi Runxindayin Haocai Youxiangongsi under the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) B07G2WYHYJ. Afterwards, Amazon took down the respective products. These products are compatible with HP toner-cartridge model CF280A and provide inter alia a non-OEM coupling member, a non-OEM drum as well as a non-OEM housing.

Canon also filed a Report Infringement Form with Amazon UK-based on the alleged use of claim 1 and 25 of the UK portion of Canon’s European Patent EP 2 087 407 regarding the cartridge model “CF280A” offered by Officetec (UK) Ltd. under the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) B07CJKJYB2. Afterwards, Amazon took down the respective product. This product is compatible with HP toner-cartridge model CF280A and provides inter alia a non-OEM coupling member, a non-OEM drum as well as a non-OEM housing.

Last, Canon filed a Report Infringement Form with Amazon UK-based on the alleged use of claims 1 and 25 of the UK portion of Canon’s European Patent EP 2 087 407 regarding the cartridge models “CF280A” and “CE505X” offered by Ink N Toner UK Retail Ltd under the ASINs (Amazon Standard Identification Numbers) B07CL2P3SQ, B07BY5RQ6P and B07CL2P7V6. Afterwards, Amazon took down the respective products. These products are compatible with HP toner-cartridge models CF280A and CE505X and provide inter alia a non-OEM coupling member, a non-OEM drum as well as a non-OEM housing.

Canon noted that filing a Report Infringement Form with Amazon is a service offered by Amazon and does not comprise any official finding of validity or infringement of a patent. It also noted that the decision to take down a product is at the discretion of Amazon and is based on information provided by Canon.
