Canon Requests Amazon Again to Remove More Third-Party Toner Cartridges

Canon Inc. of Tokyo, Japan, today announced that it filed a Report Infringement Form with Amazon Italy based on the alleged use of claim 1 and 25 of the Italian portion of Canon’s European Patent EP 2 087 407 regarding the cartridge models “CE505A” and “CF280A” offered by Internet Brand Development under the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) B01E9T0Q2Y and B01B4EQQR6. Afterwards, Amazon took down the respective products. These products are compatible with the HP toner cartridge models CE505A and CF280A and provide inter alia a non-OEM coupling member, a non-OEM drum as well as a non-OEM housing.

Canon also today announced that it filed a Report Infringement Form with Amazon Italy based on the alleged use of claim 1 and 25 of the Italian portion of Canon’s European Patent EP 2 087 407 regarding the cartridge model “CF280A” offered by Punto Rigenera under the ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) B01CYI65E0. Afterwards, Amazon took down the respective products. These products are compatible with the  HP toner-cartridge model CF280A and provide inter alia a non-OEM coupling member, a non-OEM drum as well as a non-OEM housing.

Canon noted that filing a Report Infringement Form with Amazon is a service offered by Amazon and doesn’t constitute any official finding of validity or infringement of a patent. The decision to take down a product is at the discretion of Amazon and is based on information provided by Canon. Amazon informed the vendors about the takedowns and the vendors may object to it.
