Canon Previews New A3 Business Inkjet MFPs That Print At Up To 80 PPM
On October 8th, Canon U.S.A. introduced its next generation of business inkjets, the Canon WG7200 MFP Series, which feature stationary inkjet print heads and print speeds of up to 80 ppm – and which follow Canon’s announcement in April of a cross-licensing agreement with Memjet, which makes page-wide inkjet print heads (see here).
https://wirthconsulting.org/2018/04/05/memjet-and-canon-announce-global-cross-licensing-agreement/The Canon WG7200 Series are said to provide consistent, high-quality output through user replaceable consumables and “Jam Defying Design.” Their self-serviceable design is said to maximize uptime.
The series includes four MFPs:the WG7250Z, WG7250F, WG7250, and WG7240. Each provides a fast first printout time of 6.5 seconds*with print speeds ranging from 40 ppm (WG7240) to 50 ppm (WG7250, WG7250F, and WG7250Z) in General Mode and up to 70 ppm (WG7240), or up to 80 ppm (WG7250, WG7250F, and WG7250Z) in Office Document Mode) in both color and black and white. Paper widths of up to 13″ feed over a Canon FINE (Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) stationary print head during printing to help achieve these print speeds.
The print head system is designed to help promote the smooth delivery of ink by reducing turbulence of airflow. Optical and in-nozzle sensors monitor ink ejection to help ensure reliable printing performance. A newly designed ink formulation with low surface tension is said to allow ink to absorb into the paper in a short amount of time and helps minimize smearing and bleeding.
The MFPs’ smooth, gently curving paper feed helps is said to limit the frequency of jams by allowing for a straight paper path. Each printer supports a wide range of media, including envelopes, paper sizes from 4-inches by 6-inches, up to 13-inches by 19-inches, matte photographic paper, and a wide range of paper weights.
The five-inch color LCD touch panel is said to make setup easy and allows users access to print, copy, scan, and other functions. On each printer, the covers that open are located on only the front and right sides of the machine, so that the printer can more easily be installed alongside a wall or in a corner to help maximize valuable office space.
Other features include:
Self Serviceable Design – With only one replaceable part – the ADF roller kit, the WG7200 Series have simple maintenance for ease of use. Additionally, ink cartridges and maintenance cartridge are easy to access using the front panel.
Automatic Paper Size Sensor – Built-in sensors detect the size of the paper you load into each cassette and adjusts the printers settings automatically.
Newly Designed Printhead for Stable Printing – The newly developed print head spans the full width of all supported paper sizes – meaning the print head doesn’t move across the page, achieving high-speed, accurate printing.
Anti-Curl Technology – With new ink formulations, the amount of colorant in the ink is increased, with water content reduced and an anti-curling solvent added.
Dual Nozzle Check Mechanism – Featuring optical and in-nozzle sensors, the WG7200 Series can monitor ink ejection in real time and make adjustments as necessary for the best results.
High Density Black Ink – Utilizing a high-density black ink to print vivid and sharp office documents, the text on reports, emails, spreadsheets, will always be crisp and easy to read.
Newly Designed Ink Formulation for Better Performance – With a new formulation and low surface tension, the WG7200 Series inks are able to absorb into the paper more quickly than traditional ink methods.
Single-Pass Duplexing – Simultaneously scans both sides of 2-sided documents in a single pass at 65 ipm.
High Paper Capacity – Reduce the frequency and time required to replenish paper during large print jobs, due to a maximum paper capacity of up to 2,250 sheets..

“Canon is being bullish in its mission to insert inkjet technology into the office,” says Kazuto Ogawa, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We sought to create new A3 multifunction printers that would bring intuitive inkjet technology to the B2B workforce. Intentionally designed for a low total cost of ownership, and little to no maintenance requirements, the series creates a compelling value proposition for businesses tight on resources that still desire high-quality, high-speed printing.”
