Canon imagePRESS C850 Digital Color Press Series with New optional POD Deck Lite XL Long Sheet Feeder

Canon U.S.A. today made several announcements for its production- and commercial-printer lineup, including: a new partnership with Videk, for a print-quality inspection solution; new document-finishing options for the Canon varioPRINT 140 Series; and a new optional POD Deck Lite XL Long Sheet Feeder for use with several Canon imagePRESS models.

Videk Print-Quality Inspection Solution

Canon announced that it’s entered into a distribution agreement in which Canon will now sell one of partner Videk’s print-quality inspection solutions through its dealer network. Videk’s DocuVision Edge solution can be used with the Canon Océ VarioPrint 6000 TITAN series of digital presses for the transactional print-market segment, and is said to provide an additional layer of process-verification features and print-validation for those Canon customers printing personalized documents such as checks.

Developed specifically for the Océ VarioPrint 6000 TITAN press, Videk’s DocuVision Edge solution integrates cameras and software designed to provide customers with the ability to scan a full-page image of every document printed, and then analyze it to verify and help validate personal information on transactional documents. The system provides a method to help protect the printing process by helping to ensure the integrity of every document as it prints at production print speeds. Canon says the result is the ability to limit unnecessary waste when corrupt documents make their way to finishing. It also says total job auditing and reporting help streamline re-print procedures and ease compliance concerns with internal or external customers.

Videk CEO and President Tom Slechta commented: “For more than 20 years, Videk has partnered with Océ and Canon Solutions America, offering a portfolio of print inspection solutions for their suite of printers. We are now extremely pleased to expand our Canon relationship by working with Canon U.S.A. and their business partners to strengthen their product line-up and to increase our access to the production print market. This solution expands the capability of their exceptional printers by adding integrated quality control – an important benefit to those printing checks or other personal documents.”

A key target application of the solution is to check print integrity to help detect duplicate or missing checks. The page is scanned to read check numbers, account numbers, barcodes, and the MICR line. The end report validates total check amounts and number of checks printed to help validate completeness of the run. Implementing verification within the print process by using Videk’s DocuVision Edge solution can also help safeguard personal information. If an error is found, such as document numbers are out of sequence, the printer can be stopped, an error message generated, and the documents diverted for subsequent reprint.

Videk is a global provider of vision-based print-verification systems, inserter input and output scanning systems, and data-management software. The company’s focus is on zero-defect print production for organizations with mission-critical document programs. More information on Videk is available here.

New Finishing Options for Canon’s varioPRINT 140 Monochrome Digital Press Series

To better enable the creation of high-quality, professionally finished booklets, Canon also announced that two new finishing accessories are now available as options for the Canon varioPRINT 140 Series of monochrome digital presses: the GBC eWire Pro for inline twin-loop wire-binding, and the Plockmatic BLM50/35 saddle-stitch booklet makers.

Canon notes that in-line accessories can help operators streamline their printing process by automating various time-consuming processes.

The GBC eWire Pro allows print service providers to fully automate what used to be a time-intensive and manual or semi-manual process. When combined with the optional Multi-Function Professional Puncher, the device provides an in-line, fully automated system for binding with twin-loop wire elements, improving the process time for wire binding by up to three-times versus a fully manual punching and binding process.

Canon says the durable metallic composition and full 360-degree wrap-around capability of twin-loop wire binding has made it a popular choice for high-quality professionally bound output, with approximately 400 million documents being bound with twin-loop wire annually, according to GBC. The firm also states that print professionals have found that twin-loop wire binding lends itself well to a variety of applications, including calendars, photo books, manuals, journals, and marketing presentations.

Previously available for select imagePRESS color digital presses, the compatibility of the optional Plockmatic BLM50/35 has now been expanded to include the Canon varioPRINT 140 Series of monochrome digital presses. Together, the varioPRINT 140 and Plockmatic BLM 50/35 can produce high quality square spine booklets with up to 200 pages (50 sheets). Users also can also print directly on the spine for a more professional appearance.

Both the GBC eWire Pro and the Plockmatic BLM50/35 are available now for the Canon varioPRINT 140 monochrome digital press from authorized Canon dealers.

New Optional POD Deck Lite XL Long Sheet Feeder for the Canon imagePRESS C850/C750/C650 and imagePRESS C65

Canon also announced new optional add-ons and features designed to expand applications for Canon imagePRESS systems. The new optional POD Deck Lite XL Long Sheet Feeder can help users of the imagePRESS C850/C750/C650 and imagePRESS C65 digital color presses to run continuous auto-duplexed long sheets in sizes of up to 13″ by 30″.

According to the firm, the expansion of the imagePRESS C850 Digital Press Series means customers who purchase these options can create applications such as book covers, six-panel brochures, dust jackets, maps, larger posters, banners, point-of-purchase signage, pocket folders, and calendars, all in one workflow.

In addition to the long sheet feeder, the digital front-end options for the imagePRESS C850 Digital Press Series now also incorporate the following updates:

  • Canon’s PRISMAsync Color Print Server version 6, which is now standard, offers embedded color verification and validation for optimal, predictable print quality. The redesigned user interface is also said to further help operators navigate quickly.
  • The imagePRESS Servers H300 V2 and G200 powered by EFI Fiery technology provide new management tools to help users print jobs correctly the first time.
  • For the imagePRESS Server H300 V2, Canon now includes the new Media Librarian feature to help simplify the process of creating, editing, and organizing media stocks on imagePRESS devices.

Canon says the imagePRESS C850 Digital Color Press Series offers users “outstanding quality, productivity and versatility in a compact, scalable footprint.” Designed for small to mid-size commercial, franchise, in-plant, transactional, and quick printers, the imagePRESS C850 digital color press is equipped to handle a variety of media options including envelopes, and heavy, coated, and textured stocks up to 110 lb. cover. It also supports validated heavier stocks up to 130 lb.

These latest product updates are now available.
