New EFI Fiery Servers for Ricoh’s New Four- and Five-Color Station Pro C7200X Series Production Printers

On March 7, 2018, Electronics For Imaging (EFI) announced the availability of two new EFI Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) for use with Ricoh’s new Pro C7200X Series production printers introduced earlier this month in Europe (see below).

Based on the new Fiery FS300 Pro system software, the EFI Color Controller E85A and E-45A leverage the latest Fiery technology enhancements to deliver “blazing fast performance and outstanding color out-of-the-box.” Tools include those for making color adjustments, plus job make-ready, and automation enhancements for greater workflow efficiency.

Speciality Toner and Imaging support

Both Fiery DFEs fully support the Pro C7200X Series’ speciality toner capabilities, including printing with clear, white, neon pink, neon yellow, and invisible red toner, and enable users to manage speciality toners throughout the entire job workflow, preventing inadvertent errors and reducing waste.

Users can also add speciality toner to print jobs without going back to pre-press and/or changing the design file. They’re said to have full control over whether to apply white toner over or under cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) output, and whether to mirror or invert any of the files. EFI’s Dynamic HD Text & Graphics feature for these new Fiery DFEs is also said to result in production of sharp, fine details, small font-size text and “ultra-thin lines with clarity.”

John Henze, vice president of Fiery marketing at EFI, commented: “These new Fiery DFEs for Ricoh printers provide the essential tools to make customers more productive. In addition to the advancements of the Fiery FS300 Pro software, they include Fiery Command WorkStation 6, the industry-standard job-management software, which allows customers to work more efficiently and keep all of their print engines producing profitably. Plus, Fiery HyperRIP enhancements on the E-85A enables print service providers to double the processing speed on more types of jobs.”

Fiery NX hardware platform

Both servers use the Fiery NX hardware platform, providing enhanced performance along with a sleek, modern design for higher operational efficiency. The servers can be housed in the optional Fiery NX Station LS, said to be an ergonomic work environment for customers who need a highly efficient and comfortable workspace.

Workflow Automation

Both Fiery servers come with Fiery JobFlow Base automation software for streamlined pre-press print-job preparation. An additional automation upgrade is also available for intelligent job routing, advanced scripting, and other features.

Industry Integration

Fiery DFEs are said to help print-service providers achieve business-wide workflow automation by integrating EFI management-information systems, EFI Web-toPrint software, and other popular pre-press workflows, such as Kodak PRINERGY, Heidelberg Prinect, and Agfa Apogee.

The E-85A and E-45A driving the Ricoh Pro C7200X Series are available now. For more information on Fiery color imaging, visit EFI here.

Ricoh Pro C7200X Series Production Printers

Introduced earlier this month in Europe, the five-color Ricoh Pro C7200X (Graphic Arts Edition) cut-sheet production printer series is said to have been designed and engineered for graphic-arts applications, while the four-color ProTM C7200 series has been developed to help enterprise print rooms reduce operational costs.

Enhancements compared to the previous Ricoh Pro C7100X platform include improved color stability due to automatic calibration with inline sensors, and improved registration with an automatic adjustment function.

In addition, the new systems’ fifth color station is said to provide a wider scope for value-added print applications with the new ability to print white plus CMYK in a single pass, enhancing print impact, for example, on colored media.

The Pro C7200X series also introduces invisible red toner that’s said to be ideal for a range of entry-level security applications. Ricoh’s recently launched neon-pink toner, as well as its white, clear, and neon-yellow toners, make up a wide range of fifth-color options

Models in the series print at up to either 95 ppm or 85 ppm,and automatically duplex long-sheet production up to 700mm, and simplex up to 1260mm. Image quality is at 2,400 x 4,800 dpi. Ricoh says the systems can print on a wide range of media at rated print speed on media up to 360gsm in weight.

Document-finishing options include the GBC eWire Binder, BDT Banner Sheet LCT, and a Plockmatic banner sheet stacker. Also new is a 17″ operator panel.

The Ricoh Pro C7200X series will be unveiled on next month in Lisbon, Portugal, and then at a series of events across Europe under the banner of Ricoh’s “Art of the New 2018.” All models will become available this month in Europe, the Middle-East, and Africa.
