New HP ENVY Photo All-in-Ones with New Black Ink, Mobile Connectivity, Instant Ink, More

Are home photo printers back? Could be. HP Inc. says it’s had lots of success with its Sprocket portable photo printer, and earlier this week, announced a new color inkjet All-in-One Envy Photo series geared with home photo printing in mind. The firm notes that photo printing – and non-digital paper  in general – is making somewhat of a come-back, with e-book sales falling and vinyl music albums outselling digital music.

HP says it’s added special features to the color inkjet All-in-Ones, which are designed for home users, that make printed colors more vibrant, noting that shadows and contrasts are typically difficult to render when converting from digital to paper format. This meant re-tooling its HP 64 black ink so that it not only enables better definition in printed photos, but also provides best text quality on plain paper.

Features of note for the new All-in-Ones include:

  • Print, scan, copy, and fax functionality.
  • HP Smart App for mobile printing  – print photos from social media, the cloud, and your smartphone’s camera-roll gallery; scan and share to email or the cloud from virtually anywhere; order ink directly through the app.
  • Bluetooth SMART for fast Wi-Fi setup in less than a minute to your home network using the HP Smart app on smartphones, and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Dedicated photo paper tray makes it a cinch to switch to photo printing.
  • HP Instant Ink program for prints at less than 5 cents per page.

HP also notes that the these are the world’s first printers in this class made with closed-loop recycled plastic. Ink cartridges are also made in Haiti from recycled plastic.
