New Epson Expression Premium ‘Small-in-One’ for Home Users Said to Produce Lab-Quality Prints

Epson America today rolled out its new Expression Premium XP-640 “Small-in-One” color-inkjet All-in-One ($149.99 MSRP). The new All-in-One is said to provide “superior photo quality,” and features automatic two-sided printing and the ability to print 4″ x 6″ photos in as fast as 20 seconds. It also features wireless connectivity, including Wi-Fi Direct for printing from Apple iPads and iPhones, and Android tablets and smartphones without using a router.

It also features the Epson Creative Print App, which enables users to print photo collages, personalized coloring book pages, and stationery directly from personal photos, as well as Facebook and Instagram photos.

Users can print border-less photos up to 8″ x 10″ in size, and the system uses Epson 5-color Claria Premium ink-system that’s said to provide prints with superior photo image quality as well as prints that are smudge-, scratch-, water-, and fade-resistant.

The Expression Premium XP-640 is also compatible with Epson Connect, Epson’s suite of solutions that includes Email Print, Epson Creative Print, Epson iPrint, Epson Remote Print, and Epson Scan to Cloud services. There’s an enhanced 2.7″ LCD screen, plus built-in USB drive and memory card slots for PC-free printing and dedicated trays for printing photos and on CD/DVDs. Users may also scan photos and documents and save them to cloud Web sites.

Other features include:

  • Wireless color print, color copy, and color scan.
  • ISO print speed rated at 13 (black)/10 (color) ppm.
  • Five-ink system: black, cyan, magenta, yellow, and photo black ink cartridges.
  • Replacement ink cartridges consist of Epson 410 cartridges; black ($12.99) yields up to 250 page, while each color cartridge ($12.99 each) yields up to 300 pages; page yield not provided for Photo Black cartridge ($12.99). Standard in cartridges are also available in combo-packs (CYMK, $48.29).
  • High-Yield replacement ink cartridges consist of 410XL black cartridge ($24.99) that yields up to 530 pages, while each color cartridge ($18.99 each) yields up to 650 pages; page yield not provided for Photo Black cartridge ($18.99).

  • Auto Photo Correction.
  • Select and print photos.
  • Crop, rotate, and enlarge.
  • View and print-by-date.
  • Print your own picture packages.
  • Print passport and photo ID.
  • Print multiple photos on a single page.
  • Print your own school papers, thin-ruled, wide-ruled and graph paper.
  • Make personalized notepaper using your own photos, photo greeting cards and coloring book pages
