- Canon’s new imageCLASS MF416dw.
On April 1st, Canon U.S.A. announced that it’s refreshed and expanded its imageCLASS lineup with 11 new black-and-white laser-based models, including five single-function printers, four MFPs with letter-size platens, and two MFPs with legal-size platens. All of the new desktop units are A4 (print and scan on up to 8.5″x14″), and feature a broad array of mobile-printing support, from Apple AirPrint, to Google Cloud Print, Near Field Communication, and Mopria mobile printing.
Designed for Personal and Small/Home Office
The compact 28-ppm imageCLASS LBP151dw printer ($169 minimally advertised price [MAP]) is designed for home offices and environments where space is at a premium. This standalone printer with wireless connectivity has a small footprint (15.4″ wide x 13.2″ deep x 9.7″ high), and supports mobile printing from most Apple and Android smartphones and tablets via the Canon PRINT Business application. It also supports the Mopria Print Service and Google Cloud Print mobile printing.
The 35-ppm imageCLASS MF416dw MFP ($499 MAP) features print, copy, color scan, and fax (with 8.5″x11″ platen), while the 35-ppm imageCLASS D1550 MFP ($599 MAP) features print, copy, color scan, and fax (with 8.5″x14″ legal-size platen) Both feature support for Near Field Communication (NFC), which enable users to conveniently “tap and print” with an NFC-enabled mobile device
Canon notes that according to market-research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), approximately 75 percent of workers surveyed see as much value in printing from their smartphone or tablet as printing from a computer, while 15 percent say it actually provides greater value.
Both models are equipped with a larger, 3.5-inch LCD color touch screen. These devices, as well as the new MF414dw MFP ($399 MAP with print, copy, color scan, and fax, with 8.5″x11″ platen) and D1520 MFP ($499 MAP with print, copy, color scan, and fax, with 8.5″x14″ legal-size platen), also feature wireless-direct connectivity, enabling users to connect to mobile devices without the need for a network router.
As noted, the new imageCLASS D1520, and imageCLASS D1550 MFP ($599 MAP) feature a legal-size 8.5″x14″ platen glass, making them suitable for use in small workgroups within legal firms and government offices.

The imageCLASS LBP251dw and imageCLASS 253dw standalone printers, best-suited for small and mid-size businesses, print at up to 35 ppm, and also feature wireless-direct connectivity, with the imageCLASS LBP253dw also supporting NFC.
Rated at up to 58 and 65 ppm, the two printers are Canon’s fastest single-function printers in the United States to date. They feature a paper capacity expandable up to 3,600 sheets, and may be configured with up to four optional paper cassettes. They also use new large-capacity toner cartridges that yield up to 11,000 pages for the standard version, and up to 25,000 pages for the high-yield toner cartridge.
