This Week in Imaging: Thoughts on Canon Expo 2015; New Office and Production Inkjet Printers from Canon, HP, and Epson
This week, be sure to check out our story on the technology previewed by Canon at its Expo 2015 tech extravaganza. While the massive production-printing zone drew a great deal of visitors, there were also various printers and MFPs tucked away here and there. We were particularly struck by the presence of Canon MAXIFY business-inkjet printers connected to some of Canon’s more advanced workflow and management solutions. Canon also demonstrated a commitment to new types of printers and applications with a preview of its advanced 3D-printing prototype, the popular “Canon Clothes Store” replete with open-platform 3D scanners and textile-printing technology, and layered, textured printing in the production zone.
It was also a busy week for office- and production-inkjet news: 1) Epson introduced new desktop photo printers, as well as new wide-format inkjet printers, the latter of which will be sold by its graphics-arts dealer channel; 2) Canon launches its “big iron” inkjet Océ ColorStream 3000 Z production-printer series; 3) HP leverages its PageWide inkjet technology in the production arena with new inkjet web presses; and 4) HP Inc. promises to focus on “Ink in the Office.” At Canon’s Expo 2015, we also saw what appeared to be a new prototype inkjet wide-format printer (below).
