HP Enhances Printer-Security Solutions, Adds New Proactive Print Advisor Service

bannerHewlett-Packard today reported that it’s enhanced several of its solutions designed to secure customers’ HP print fleets, including enhancements to HP Access Control, HP JetAdvantage Security Manager, a new module for the HP Capture and Route solution, as well as a new service, HP Proactive Print Advisor.  HP has also expanded HP JetAdvantage Security Manager to include coverage for its recently introduced Pro-class LaserJet printers, and expanded geographical coverage of its HP Printing Security Services to Europe and Asia with the addition of HP security advisors in these regions.

The updates are part of HP’s campaign to help customers achieve greater security and efficiency for their print environment, as well as make these security solutions accessible to more customers. “Security and protecting corporate data are issues of growing importance for our customers,” commented Edmund Wingate, vice president of HP LaserJet Enterprise Solutions. “HP continues to lead the way in printer security with offerings that strengthen the security of our network printers and help protect our customers’ data.” HP first introduced a number of these solutions in September 2014 – see our story here.

HP Access Control Updates

HP Access Control has added support for server-less pull printing and, as well as the ability to submit print jobs to the secure pull-print queue by sending them via email (enhancing support for mobile printing).

Server-less pull printing is a new feature of HP Access Control that eliminates the need for servers. With secure pull printing, the user submits a job to the print queue, but the job is only printed by the printer or MFP when the user logs-in at the control panel of the compatible device, locates their print job, and then releases it for printing. As HP notes, secure pull-printing can be deployed to maintain document confidentiality, improve regulatory compliance, and save on toner and paper.

HP Access Control now also enables mobile-device users to print via email to the secure pull-print queue. This enables easy printing from mobile devices, and mobile printing is subject to the same access control, tracking, and security measures as print jobs initiated from PC’s or laptops on the company network. These new capabilities are available globally to all customers with HP Access Control.

New Module for HP Capture and Route

A new module for the HP Capture and Route solution adds forms-recognition capabilities.

The new module, available globally, makes it faster and easier to scan paper documents and manage them digitally to reduce errors and improve security and compliance. For customers needing additional workflow automation and analytics, HP’s Managed Services offers these capabilities through integration with HP Big Data, HP Teleform. and HP Process Automation to enhance security, compliance, and information governance for a various industries, including legal, healthcare, financial services, retail, etc.

HP Proactive Print Advisor

A new service, HP Proactive Print Advisor, provides administrators with customized reporting, analysis, and recommendations based on their individual HP print environment to help them optimize their print environment. Here’s how it works:

HP installs remote printer-monitoring software at the customer’s site (a minimum of 100 HP network or printing devices is required). The software automatically detects and monitors the customer’s HP printing and imaging devices. HP then analyzes the data received from the devices and provide the customer with a personalized report with recommendations for reducing device downtime, as well as reports detailing firmware status, and fleet usage. HP then provides a fleet-utilization assessment and observations and recommendations.
