Sales, Earnings Up for Kyocera’s Fiscal Year and Latest Quarter

Kyocera UK HQ interiorApril 30, 2015 – On April 27th,  Kyocera Corporation of Japan released results for its latest fiscal quarter, and for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2015.

Fiscal Year 2015

Kyocera Corporation’s net sales for fiscal 2015 were ¥1,526,536 million, an increase of ¥79,167 million, or 5.5 percent, compared with its fiscal year ended March 31, 2014.

The firm says these sales results marked another record high following its record sales high posted for fiscal-year 2014. Profit increased in Kyocera’s Fine Ceramic Parts Group, Semiconductor Parts Group, Electronic Device Group, and Information Equipment Group, due to higher sales and the effect of cost reductions.

While profit from operations decreased by ¥27,154 million, or 22.5 percent, to ¥93,428 million compared with ¥120,582 million for fiscal-year 2014, and income before income taxes decreased by ¥24,406 million, or 16.7 percent, to ¥121,862 million compared with ¥146,268 million for fiscal-year 2014 (due mainly to a recording loss in line with a review of asset valuation in the Applied Ceramic Products Group and Telecommunications Equipment Group), net income increased by ¥27,119 million, or 30.6 percent, to ¥115,875 million compared with ¥88,756 million for fiscal-year 2014. Kyocera attributes the increase in net income primarily to a revaluation of deferred tax assets and liabilities in line with a revision of the tax system in Japan, resulting in an increase of approximately ¥36,300 million in net income.

Sales for Kyocera’s Information Equipment Group, which includes MFP/copiers and printers, for fiscal-year increased compared with fiscal-year 2014 as a result, the firm says, of an increase in sales mainly overseas. Operating profit increased significantly compared with fiscal-year 2014, due to an increase in sales of consumables and other products, as well as the effect of cost reductions, which included use of a factory in Vietnam.

Fourth-Quarter Results

For its fourth quarter ending March 31, 2015, Kyocera reported net sales of ¥424,844 million, compared to ¥375,981 million for the same quarter a year ago, and net income before taxes of ¥41,904 million  compared to ¥19,392 million for the same quarter a year ago.

For its current fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, Kyocera is forecasting that net sales will increase 4.8 percent, and net income will increase 3.6 percent, both compared to the previous fiscal year.
