This week, we hope you’ll check out our year in review for the printer and MFP industry. From production to desktop, we went back to uncover the trends and new developments that are shaping the industry today.

Also in this week’s news, Canon expands its toner-cartridge patent-infringement campaign to Germany, while MSE expands it remanufacturered-cartridge distribution network in the United States. The remanufactured toner-cartridge war seems like one that will continue until the end of time, or until no one prints anymore, which ever comes first.

The Print Tracker/Brother news is interesting, but with the information provided to us, there’s some unanswered questions. So, we did a little digging around on their Web site and found that: 1) it is a server-less solution; 2) since it’s installed on each PC workstation, it can also track usage of directly connected printers; 3) “one-click” deployment procedures are available; 4) Print Tracker is compatible with any printers that support SNMP v1, 2 or 3, so it will work with most printers regardless of technology; 5) the solution does not track “meters,” it tracks print jobs and extracts the print data, then sends it to a cloud-based server; and 6) the information on the Web site appears dealer-centric.

With so many irons in the fire, Samsung is amazing. We’re talking phones, tablets, semiconductors, displays, appliances, autos, printers, real estate, and seemingly everything in between. That said, consolidation of divisions makes sense.
