New Concept Printers from Samsung, the Vase, One&One, and Mate Laser Printers

December 8, 2014 – While we’re a bit late reporting this, we thought it was worth reporting on some interesting new concept printers Samsung Electronics previewed at the IFA 2014 consumer-electronics trade show held in Berlin, Germany, in September 2014. The four concept printers, designed for the home and office, come in a range of bright colors, unconventional designs, and incorporate eco-friendly features such as use of recycled paper. These concept designs won the 2014 iF Design Award in the Concept Design category. Samsung hasn’t stated if and when the new products will be commercially available, but “expects the new printers to play an important role in the growing trend for mobile printing.”

“Samsung’s concept printers are designed to be simple, mobile and quick to use. We developed our design-concept printers to apply the mobile printing trend in the home and office and the increasing trend for eco-friendly technology,” commented Mark Ash, general manager of Samsung Electronics U.K. and Ireland Print Division.

For Home and Personal Office
With the growing trend for mobile printing, “Vase” is a monochrome laser printer that takes up minimal space. It features a vertical design – similar to that of a magazine rack – in order to save space. Users feed paper in a vertical fashion, and the printer is available in a range of neutral colors so that it can blend in with the common home living-room color schemes.

“Egg Tray” is an eco-friendly toner cartridge package created with fully recyclable paper. Instead of the conventional paper toner-cartridge box with an air-shock absorbent, manual, and warranty card, the Egg Tray uses one pulp-molded tray and recycled paper. Samsung says this not only reduces material costs, but is also more environmentally friendly.

“One & One” is a monochrome laser printer with a hybrid design so that it can print in two different colors. The two cartridges enable users to print in black, plus either cyan, magenta, or yellow.

“Mate” is a monochrome laser printer that enables people to customize the printer’s outer casing using removable color panels.
