Epson has been on a tear lately, releasing a wave of new connected tech solutions, including everything from the littlest All-in-One ever, to a portable scanner, to ground-breaking smart glasses with augmented reality. Virtually all of these will be appreciated by any connected individual or household.

Here are several current and recently=-ntroduced Epson products that merit consideration as holiday gifts that will keep on giving long after the holidays are gone:

Epson PictureMate Show Digital Frame/Compact Photo Printer PM 300 ($299.99)

Epson PictureMate Show Digital Frame/Compact Photo Printer PM 300

The PM 300’s portable and compact 2-in-1 design enables printing of “better-than-lab-quality” photos up to 4″x6″ in size, and also displays your favorite pictures on a high-resolution, 7″-wide digital photo frame. You can even edit your photos on the display (crop images, fix red eye, choose color effects, and more), and print them, all without a PC. Of course, you can hook it up to your PC and print via USB, but you can also easily connect to any digital camera or insert a a memory card and print (CF I and II, SD, Memory Stick, and Microdrive formats are supported). Custom layout templates are also included for the production of 16 photos per page, 4 photos per page, wallet-size photos, mini wallet-size photos, proof sheets, and custom layouts. There are no physical controls on the PM 300 – instead, all operations are performed using the remote control, so don’t lose it. The PM 300 also folds up neatly, and includes a carrying handle for easy carrying.

Cost of Ownership

Once acquired, all you need to run the PictureMate Show is electricity and Epson ink and photo paper packs, each containing a 4-color dye-based ink cartridge along with 150 sheets of photo paper. Cost per print is competitive when compared to that of other photo printers and photo-printing services.

PowerLite Home Cinema 500 ( $379.00)

Epson PLHC-600

Huge screen on the go! This is a portable home theater projector for big-screen entertainment. Screen an 800p video as large as 300″ and as bright as 2,600 color and white lumens anywhere that there’s an electrical outlet and a projection surface. Connect the Home Cinema 500 to any device that has an HDMI cable (compatible with the latest laptops, Blu-ray Disc players, game consoles, and more) for HD-quality viewing. There’s also a Game Mode for displaying video games or TV programs in well-lit rooms, instant off, and a projection lamp that lasts up to 5,000 hours.

Cost of Ownership

Once acquired, all you need to run the PowerLite Home Cinema 500 is AC power and a  projection surface (e.g.: a wall). However, as with any projection system, the PowerLite Home Cinema 500 will eventually require replacement of the projection lamp, which back in the day were mighty expensive. Thankfully, this issue has been minimized with the PowerLite Cinema 500.
