Ricoh Canada to Acquire Legal-Support Services Provider Commonwealth
Ricoh Canada reports that it’s signed a definitive agreement to acquire Commonwealth Legal, with the acquisition expected to close within the next 60 days. Commonwealth Legal provides secure cloud-based legal ediscovery and archiving solutions, and has been in business for 15 years.
Once the acquisition is complete, Commonwealth Legal will be a division of Ricoh Canada Inc.
Ricoh Canada says the acquisition will provide “tremendous benefits” for both organizations, and improve products and services available to Canadian customers in the litigation-support services segment. Commonwealth Legal will continue to service its current customers, and will effectively remain unchanged from an operational perspective.
Commonwealth Legal also provides managed services, which the firm says complements Ricoh Canada’s Legal Document Services (LDS), portfolio of services that deliver document-management/content-management offerings, including document imaging and IT services, designed specifically for the legal market.
“As a division of Ricoh Canada we will be able to combine our expertise and technology solutions with Ricoh’s capacity, resources, and commitment to customer service,” commented Karen Brookman, president of Commonwealth Legal. “We have always operated as a specialized boutique service provider to Canadian law firms, government agencies and corporations. Now as part of Ricoh Canada, a trusted Canadian company with global reach, we will deliver an unparalleled full-service offering to our clients with more ease and accessibility than ever before.”
According to Mike Fast, vice president of Services Delivery at Ricoh Canada, “This move provides Ricoh with real acceleration into the more advanced elements of the LDS space – and the broader litigation-support-services arena, and simultaneously provides Commonwealth Legal with a springboard for growth. It’s the proverbial win-win.”
