Konica Minolta Setting up New Plant in Malaysia to Produce MFP Consumables

Malaysia-launchesKonica Minolta of Tokyo reports that it’s setting up a new manufacturing subsidiary in Malaysia that will be dedicated to manufacturing consumables for its MFPs. The new subsidiary will be called Konica Minolta Business Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd (KMMY), and is scheduled to begin operations in October 2014.

The firm says that its Business Technologies Business has a broad customer base, ranging from GMAs (global major accounts), to small and mid-size businesses in countries around the world. It markets a range of products for business customers, from bizhub MFPs, to solution services, including proposals to optimize customer enterprises’ print environment through its OPS (Optimized Print Services). It says sales of its bizhub MFPs have grown in numbers year-after-year, and it expects increasing demand for a steady supply system of consumables and parts for bizhubs.

For the plant’s land, facilities, and buildings, Konica Minolta will use its former Malaysian factory that manufactured glass substrates for HDDs as much as possible. It’ll also be setting up a model factory to showcase its production capability through the introduction of state-of-the-art solution services such as ICT services and document-management systems that it’s currently marketing.

Konica Minolta Business Technologies (Malaysia) is located in Malacca City, Malaysia, in the southwestern coast of the Malay Peninsula. The firm says the region is ideal for stable shipping of consumables to various parts of the globe. By also collaborating with its Southeast Asian sales and service headquarters in Singapore, it says it’ll be well-positioned to offer enhanced customer services in the region. The new manufacturing site for MFP consumables will also help Konica Minolta minimize supply-chain risks.

The firm did not disclose how much it’s investing in the new plant.
