Good news this week from Japan and Western Europe. This week in news from Japan, Sharp finally returns to a profitable year, Konica Minolta reports a stellar year, boosted by sales of bizhub MFPs, while OKI also reports a profitable year, with sales of its office MFPs up. Previously in the last several weeks, Epson reported a sharp improvement for its fiscal year, with sales of its business inkjets lifting revenue, and Ricoh reported robust results for its year, as did Canon, the last reporting healthy sales of office MFPs and inkjet and laser printers/MFPs.

From the improving printer/MFP market in Western Europe that had been hard-hit by the economic crisis, IDC reports that the Western Europe market for printers and MFPs enjoyed growth for the fourth consecutive quarter. MFPs versus standalone printers accounted for most of the revenue (78 percent), with color lasers and business inkjets making a strong showing.

On the product front, OKI announced new A3 color MFPs that incorporate OKI’s Extendable Platform, and Canon and Epson expanded their mobile-printing strategies. Brother also introduced new A4 desktop color lasers  that feature mobile printing, scan to cloud, and user authentication. And, in what’s sure to warm the hearts of Hewlett-Packard and Brother, Xerox reports that Rapid Refill stores across the United States are now selling Xerox-brand toner and ink for HP and Brother inkjet and laser printers and MFPs.
