New eCopy ShareScan Connector for Scanning to Electronic Health Record Systems

Nuance Communications is launching what it’s calling the only MFP scanning solution that allows users to scan documents directly into the NextGen Healthcare electronic healthcare records (EHR) document-management system.

eCopy ShareScan is the world’s best-selling document scanning and workflow solution for networked MFPs and scanners. The eCopy ShareScan application runs embedded on MFPs and scanner from vendors such as Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Konica Minolta, Ricoh, and Xerox. With it, uses can also scan to folder workflows for all other brands, turning these devices into secure on-ramps to NextGen EHR workflows. NextGen Healthcare Information Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Systems, and a provider of healthcare-information systems and connectivity solutions.

The new Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector integrates eCopy ShareScan, Nuance’s document-workflow and scanning solution, and NextGen Ambulatory EHR, thereby eliminating the manual process of indexing electronic health records with keywords after scanning. The new solution accelerates paper capture into the NextGen Ambulatory EHR, and completes the patient record in the EHR to increase patient safety, and streamline the EHR process.

NextGen Healthcare optimizes document management for physician practices throughout the United States with its EHR software, which organizes digitized medical records and aids in practice management. The Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector enables clinics and other healthcare facilities to use existing MFPs and scanners at or near the point of care. With a few simple button presses, a document can be scanned and indexed in the NextGen Ambulatory EHR for insertion into clinical workflows, giving providers nearly instantaneous access to paper-based information.

According to Nuance, benefits include:

  • Quick and accurate indexing through dynamic patient and document-type lookups at the MFP.
  • Simplified processing with soft buttons tied to specific document types.
  • Batch processing with barcodes and cover sheets.
  • Intuitive operations with standardized, easy-to-use interface across capture devices.
  • Instantly searchable digital copies of paper records enabled by OCR technology.

“A vast network of clinics and associated healthcare environments rely on NextGen’s EHR to access, index and update electronic patient data,” commented Michael Lovett, executive vice president and general manager for NextGen Healthcare. “With tools like the new Nuance NextGen Healthcare Connector, our customers can tackle the challenges created by incoming paper-based records more effectively and maximize their IT infrastructure by scanning records directly from their existing MFPs.”

The eCopy ShareScan NextGen Connector is available immediately through Nuance’s global channel of MFP vendors, partners, dealers, and professional services teams. For more information, visit Nuance here

Nuance is currently demonstrating the solution at the HIMSS trade show being held February 23-27 in Orlando, Florida, in booth #3765.
