New Scanner Option Adds Scan to Network, e-Mail, Lexmark Solutions, to Lexmark Printers

6500e option copy

Lexmark has rolled out an interesting new option that turns several printer-only Lexmark printers into multifunctional systems with network scan, scan to e-mail, copy and fax capability, as well as the ability to add Lexmark Solutions for automated document scanning and routing, integration with business-processing software, etc. Included is Lexmark’s  10.2” e-Task color touch screen, 100-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder with 11”x17” scan capability, and flatbed platen. The scanner, called the 6500e MFP option, is compatible with Lexmark’s T650, T652, and T654 monochrome laser printers.

Included is Lexmark’s  10.2” e-Task color touch screen, 100-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder with 11”x17” scan capability, and flatbed platen. The scanner, called the 6500e MFP option, is compatible with Lexmark’s T650, T652, and T654 monochrome laser printers.

Because the scanner doesn’t have to be physically attached to the printer (just to the printer via Ethernet cable interface), it can be flexibly installed, at a convenient height for instance, and even in a location away from the printer.

The 6500e MFP option, which lists at $2,699.00,  comes preloaded with three Lexmark Solutions that are accessed via the icon-driven e-Task color touch screen:

  • The Forms and Favorites Solution adds print-on-demand capability; to print frequently used documents, users press a key on the touch screen. This eliminates having to store documents in hardcopy form, and also eliminates printing more documents than needed.
  • Scan to Network – Administrators can configure to 30 predefined personal or public shared network folders; at the touch screen, the user selects the Scan to Network icon and then a folder to send their scanned document to.
  • Change Language – Switch the language displayed on the touch screen, for instance, from English to Spanish. Eighteen languages are supported.

Other Solutions include automated document routing, with connectors to Microsoft SharePoint, IBM FileNet, EMC Documentum, etc., as well as Solutions for automating business processes such as hiring new employees, accounts payable, and legal-file processing, by recognizing key content in scanned documents, and integration with software from Lexmark’s Perceptive Software group.
