Cortado Sets Up Cloud-Based Mobile Printing Alliance with Brother, Dell, Konica Minolta, etc.

Cortado has announced the formation of the Cloud Printing Alliance to enable mobile printing from smartphones, tablets, etc. to certified printers using the free, cloud-based Cortado Workplace app. The first members of the Cloud Printing Alliance include Brother, Dell, Funkwerk, Konica Minolta, Kyocera Mita, and OKI Data Americas; the alliance is open to printer manufacturers, manufacturers of network equipment, and hotspot providers.

The Cortado Workplace app enables users to print directly from smartphones and tablets (including Blackberry, Nokia, Android, Apple iOS devices, as well as Macs and notebooks) to any Wi-Fi- or Bluetooth-enabled printer without downloading print drivers or turning on a PC. Currently more than 6,000 printer drivers and about 10,000 printers are supported.

To print, the user opens the Cortado Workplace app installed on their mobile device; taps the file they wish to print, and then the printer symbol in the toolbar. The app searches for, and then displays available printers on available networks. Users can choose printers by manufacturer, and also by printer type, such as ink-jet or laser, and can print any file format, including Microsoft Excel, Adobe PDFs, MS PowerPoint files, and HTML e-mails. The actual file application does not need to be installed on the mobile device.

Cortado Workplace’s other capabilities include:

  • Once the user has installed the Cortado Workplace app on their iPhone, iPad, etc., they can access  files stored in their Workplace online storage at anytime and work just as if they’re at their desktop computer. 1 GB of storage is provided. Documents can be displayed, managed, edited via third-party apps, sent via e-mail, and of course printed. Users can access their Workplace account via PC, Mac or notebook via Cortado Web Explorer.
  • Scan documents and convert to PDF with an iPhone or iPod touch camera; PDFs can then be e-mailed and printed.

Cortado Workplace is also available as a private Cloud: the Cortado Corporate Server enterprise solution enables enterprises to use all of Cortado’s services installed within their protected corporate network. Along with cloud printing support, it offers smartphone users access to the corporate network.

Printers and MFPs certified under the program will be designated with the “Cortado Cloud Printing Ready” logo.
