Xerox Expands Reach into U.K. SMB Market with New Acquisition; Office Depot to Provide Xerox MPS in Europe

Xerox has acquired Concept Group, a supplier of small and mid-size business document imaging solutions and hardware that’s headquartered in Livingston, Scotland, with nine locations throughout the United Kingdom, and some 50 salespeople, the last of which Xerox says will immediately begin selling Xerox office-imaging systems and services. Xerox also expanded its MPS reach in Europe with a new agreement with Office Depot (see below).

Concept Group will carry the full range of Xerox office products and supplies, including all Phaser, WorkCentre, and ColorQube printers and MFPs, will service Xerox devices, and will market Xerox’s managed print services. Over time, Xerox says Concept Group will expand into marketing Xerox’s light production printers.

Concept Group’s Web site currently shows that it markets Canon laser MFPs for SMB, and one imageRUNNER Advance system, as well as Hewlett-Packard’s Managed Print offering, and Xerox wide-format imaging devices. For its part, over the last three years, Xerox has expanded its distribution to the European SMB market with two other acquisitions, Irish Business Systems in Ireland, and Veenman, in the Netherlands.

“Channel expansion continues to be a key aspect of the Xerox strategy for Europe,” said Douraid Zaghouani, president of Xerox’s Indirect Channels Group. “With Concept Group, we significantly increase our presence across the U.K., bringing the right talent, the right coverage, and the right positioning to this vital market.” 

Concept Group will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox, working in cooperation with Xerox’s other distribution channels in the region. Colin Paterson, founder of Concept Group, will continue to lead the company, reporting directly to Xerox’s Zaghouani. Concept Group will maintain its name and keep its headquarters in Livingston, Scotland, and its employees will continue to operate as part of Concept Group.

Xerox currently employs more than 4,700 people in the United Kingdom, including 230 people in Scotland, who are engaged in technical support, sales, service delivery, and marketing.

Office Depot Adds Xerox MPS in Europe

Office Depot Europe, a supplier of office supplies and services, also announced that it will provide Xerox Managed Print Services to customers across Europe. Xerox Managed Print Services are currently available to Office Depot customers in Germany, with a European rollout scheduled to take place throughout the remainder of the year.

With Xerox’s Managed Print Services, Xerox staff assess, optimize and manage customer printing needs, all designed to lower print, copy and IT support costs, reduce environmental impact, and increase office productivity.

“The proven leadership of Xerox in the Managed Print Services space provides Office Depot customers with access to outstanding print service capabilities, cross-Europe delivery opportunities, and leasing agreements for both Xerox and non-Xerox hardware,” said Mike Elbers, vice president of Marketing and Merchandising for Office Depot in Europe. “This exclusive partnership is the first European offering of its kind to bring a multi-brand solution in office supplies and print capabilities for our broad customer base.”
