Kyocera Mita is introducing two new A3 monochrome office MFPs, the TASKalfa 305 and 255, which provide A3 (11”x17”) print and scan and have attractive list prices at $5,879 and $4,679 respectively.

To support the new MFPs, which will be distributed through Kyocera Mita’s dealer channel, the firm is also launching a new nationwide advertising and marketing campaign, Innovation Made Simple.

The TASKalfa 305 and 255, which are rated at 30 and 25 ppm respectively, incorporate Kyocera Mita’s SMARTtech, which the firm defines as Simple Management and Replacement Technology and says translates into easy print, copy, scan and fax, easy maintenance, and low total cost of ownership.  With maintenance, for instance, as with many A4 systems, there’s an all-in-one toner cartridge (rated to yield up to 15,000 pages)—so there’s no need to replace drums or developing units.

In their standard configurations, the MFPs are desktop-type units with a 600-sheet paper capacity (500-sheet drawer and 100-sheet bypass tray).  They become floor-standing when you add additional paper drawers and/or optional cabinet or stand.  There’s also an optional 500-sheet stapler finisher (staple up to 50 sheets; three-position stapling), and to help reduce costs, Super Group 3 fax is optional.

Both MFPs are equipped with 512 MB of memory, upgradable to 1,536 MB, but no hard drive is available—Kyocera Mita positions the lack of a hard drive drive as a plus, noting that once the MFP is powered-off, all resident data is eliminated—thus eliminating security problems associated with a hard drive.  Another security feature is integration with Active Directory, which enables administrators to give access only to users with pre-approved credentials. Also available is Kyocera’s optional Card Authentication Kit to limit physical access control via HID/Prox, and there’s secure printing.

Specifications are as follows:

  • Network print, color scan, copying, and optional Super G3 fax that includes the ability to receive faxes in network folders.
  • 800 MHz PowerPC 464; Prescribe, PCL 6, KPDL 3 (Post Script 3 emulation), XPS printing; Linux drivers.
  • Compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008/7; Apple Mac OS 10.x; Novell NetWare 3.x/4.x/5.x/6.x; UNIX.

  • 40 (black)/20 (color) original per minute scanning; scan to e-mail, folder (SMB), FTP, and USB drives; supports LDAP; the 4.3”  color touch screen provides a QWERTY-style keypad for entering e-mail addresses and file names.
  • Automatic duplex printing; 1,600-sheet maximum paper capacity with options; optional ability to accommodate heavier paper stock (up to 140 lb. index); 50-sheet duplexing reversing automatic document feeder.
  • 300,000-page preventive maintenance (PM) schedule.
  • Maximum monthly volume of 50,000 pages for the TASKalfa 305, and 40,000 pages for the TASKalfa 255.

“No other manufacturer can offer a product of this quality and functionality, at such an attractive price point,” noted Michael Pietrunti, president and CEO, Kyocera Mita America. “We believe this is a product with broad market appeal, as innovation continues to be defined not by adding features, but by the ability to streamline technology in a way that makes it work for the end-user.”
