New $849 Epson Wide-Format Stylus Photo R3000 Printer For Photographers, Fine Arts
Epson is introducing what it’s calling its “most advanced 13” (wide) printer to date,” the Stylus Photo R3000, a color ink-jet printer that lists at $849 and will be distributed via authorized resellers. The printer uses nine pigment ink colors for an expanded color gamut, and Epson’s MicroPiezo ink-jet technology.
Other details are as follows:
- Ethernet and wireless 802.11n network connectivity, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port for local printing.
- Uses Epson’s UltraChrome K3 pigment inks; Epson says Vivid Magenta and Vivid Light Magenta provide more vivid blues and violets for an expanded color gamut.
Top-loading paper tray, as well as a new front-in, front-out media path designed for fine art media up to 1.3 mm thick, including Epson’s line of Signature Worthy papers; provides borderless cut-sheet printing and roll paper printing up to 44”, and printing on glossy, matte and fine art papers up to 13”, as well as printing on CDs and DVDs.
Incorporates Epson’s AccuPhoto HD2 Image Technology, which the firm created in collaboration with the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Munsell Color Science Laboratory; Epson says this mathematical architecture and advanced screening technology ensures more precise placement of each individual ink droplet for smoother, grain-free images. It also optimizes ink usage to maximize the color gamut (number of colors that can be printed), and provides smooth transitions and gradations in shading; it also reduces the metameric index so that printed colors appear consistent even under different lighting conditions.
- The MicroPiezo AMC Print Head is an eight-channel, high-precision print head that produces a maximum resolution of 5,670 x 1,440 dpi (optimized) and variable-sized droplets as small as 2 picoliters. For decreased maintenance and increased reliability, the print head also incorporates an ink-repellent coating.
Intelligent High-Capacity Ink System uses nine individual 25.9 ml ink cartridges with pressurized ink technology for more reliable ink delivery.
With Auto-switching Black Inks, the printer automatically switches between Photo and Matte black inks to produce the deeper blacks and richer color on glossy, matte or fine-art media.
With an Advanced Black-and-White Photo Mode, users can choose from one of four pre-set modes—neutral , warm, cool, or sepia for neutral or toned black-and-white prints. Adjustments are made via slider bars and a color tone wheel, and customized settings can be saved and recalled.
