Epson America is extending its color ink-jet WorkForce family for small and home-office business users, with two new members, the $299.999 WorkForce 840 All-in-One, which is now the flagship in the line, and a printer-based version, the $129.99 WorkForce 60, both introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show.  Of note is that the WorkForce 840 features a 500-sheet standard media capacity via two 250-sheet media drawers.   It also ships with Extra-High Capacity ink cartridges that yield up to 1,000 pages each.

Other specifications are as follows:

  • Full-color capability in all modes—print, copy, scan and fax.
  • Rated at 15 (black)/9.3 (color) ppm in simplex mode, and at 7.4 (black)/5.4 (color) ppm in duplex mode, both using ISO/IEC 24734. test standards
  • New 7.8” touch control panel with 3.5” high-resolution color LCD,
  • Duplexing 30-page automatic document feeder that scans both sides of two-sided originals in copy, scan and fax modes.
  • Built-in memory card slots and USB drive port.
  • Scan to Adobe PDF, PCs and e-mail.
  • N-Up printing (print or copy multiple pages on a single sheet).

The WorkForce 60 is rated slightly slower in color mode—ISO speeds are 15 (black)/7.1 (color) ppm in simplex mode, and 7.4 (black)/4.7 (color) ppm in duplex mode, and it’s equipped with a 250-sheet media capacity.  Both systems share these specifications in common:

  • Use Epson’s MicroPiezo print-head technology, with ink nozzles capable of delivering ink droplets in as many as three sizes, some as small as three picoliters.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi n 802.11b/g/n wireless and wired Ethernet network connectivity.
  • Use Epson’s DURABrite ink—there are four individual ink cartridges, so that only the depleted ink needs to be replaced.  Epson says inks are “instant drying.”
  • Direct printing from mobile devices.
  • Energy Star-qualified and RoHS compliant; both can be recycled at end-of-life.
