New Color Pro C720/720s Production Systems From Ricoh; Will Market New Document-Server Software
January 15, 2010 - Ricoh Americas is launching two new production color systems, the Pro C720 and C720s, which are based on Ricoh's C900 platform. The print/copy systems are equipped with EFI Fiery controllers, and targeted at corporate and commercial print environments, and have duty cycles of 320,000 pages per month and 72-ppm rated print speed.
The Pro C720s adds scan and automated distribution of documents to e-mail addresses, and URL and FTP sites. Users can store files on a document server for later reprinting files without having to re-process (RIP) the files.
The Fiery controller adds advanced color management and work-flow, and includes the Fiery Graphic Arts Package (Standard Edition), EFI Hot Folders, Fiery WebTools, and more. Both systems utilize Ricoh's Trained Customer Replacement Units (TCRU’s), so that operators can replace key components of the system without having to contact service, thus avoiding downtime. Ricoh also bundles remote diagnostics, troubleshooting and online consumable ordering through its @Remote diagnostic solution.
In the media-handling department, the systems feature large-capacity paper drawers with air-assisted paper feeding. They accept media up to 13” x 19.2”, and media weights from 16 lb. bond to 110 lb. cover. Ricoh states that they print at their rated 72-ppm print speed regardless of media weight. Further specifications aren't available at this time.
The company will be distributing the systems via its U.S. distribution channels, which include Ricoh Business Solutions, IKON and authorized independent dealers. Order taking is effective immediately, with delivery scheduled for February 2010. Additional distribution within the Ricoh Americas group is planned through Ricoh Canada Limited and Ricoh Latin America.
Document Server Now Available From Ricoh
Ricoh also reports that it'll begin selling third-party Open Text’s Document Server (Alchemy Edition) via its Independent Solutions Vendor Program (RiSVP). Document Server is a document-management software solution that enables users to capture, store and manage scanned documents more efficiently using Ricoh MFPs.
Document Server, which is designed for use in environments such as health care, combines distributed document capture with a centralized, secure and "auditable" document repository for easier document storage and retrieval, and works with Microsoft Windows Explorer. Users can access stored files through a simple drive letter. Microsoft Office users can work with documents stored in Document Server without leaving Word, PowerPoint, Excel or any other desktop application. The document repository may also be accessed via Internet Explorer.
