
Xerox Sues Google, Yahoo Over Patent Infringements
February 25, 2010 - Bloomberg News is reporting the Xerox is suing Google and Yahoo over patent infringement, alleging that the companies infringed on Xerox patents for search queries.
According to Xerox, one patent automatically generates a query based on keyword searches, while another Xerox patent involves updating pages based on user reviews. Bloomberg News says that Xerox filed suit on February 19th in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware. Xerox wants both compensation and to prevent Google and Yahoo from using the technology.
According to eweek.com, both Google and Yahoo have denied infringing on Xerox search technology and information-integration patents and "vowed to vigorously defend themselves in court."
Xerox is alleging that Google is also illegally using its AdWords and AdSense ad platforms, and that both Google Maps and Video applications violate a Xerox patent. The company also alleges that Yahoo's Search Marketing, Publisher Network and Y Contextual Search technologies violate Xerox patents.
