Lexmark Adds Evernote Digital-Filing Cabinet App To SMB Ink-Jets
; Inks Contract With Regional Bank
February 23, 2010 - Lexmark International has introduced an interesting SmartSolution application, Evernote, that's available for three of its Web-connected color ink-jet All-in-Ones, the Interact, Prestige and Platinum, the last of which was tested by Wirth Consulting (see here). The firm also announced a deal with BB&T, a regional bank, to provide laser printers and MFPs (see below).
Evernote is a sort of digital filing cabinet that was developed by third party Evernote Corporation. It's a free Web-based service that's enables users to store digital files, e-mails, photos, etc. in their own personal "filing cabinet" on the Web, and access them via Web browser. It's compatible with Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, and smart phones. The Evernote application, which is is a form of "cloud" computing (where data and applications are stored on the Web) is free and available here.
With the Evernote SmartSolution, users will be able to scan documents via either Lexmark's Interact, Prestige or Platinum, store them in their pre-configured Evernote site, and then access them at any time via Web browser. The user downloads the Evernote SmartSolution app at Lexmark's https://smartsolutions.lexmark.com site to their Lexmark ink-jet All-in-One, and the Evernote app then appears as an icon on the Lexmark device's touch screen. Multiple Evernote accounts can be set up, and will appear as different icons on the Lexmark All-in-One's touch screen.
Inks Deal With BB&T Bank
Lexmark also signedan exclusive five-year deal with regional bank BB&T to manage the bank's printing. BB&T has some 1,800 branches located in 12 states.
Under the deal, Lexmark will supply 10,000 Lexmark laser printers and MFPs, replacing some 30,000 installed printers and MFPs.
The firm will monitor, manage and maintain the printers, and provide toner and other supplies. It will also help streamline some document workflow processes, for instances, implementing scan to e-mail to replace paper-based document distribution.
Cummins Inc., which designs power-generation equipment, has also selected Lexmark to manage its printing. Under the deal, which is for five-and-a-half years, Lexmark will supply some 2,500 color and monochrome laser printers and MFPs.
