Canon U.S.A. today released its new imageFORMULA ScanFront 400 network document scanner, which is the first document scanner to receive an EPEAT Gold rating; EPEAT is a global environmental rating system for electronics managed by the Green Electronics Council. Previewed in September at the ARMA 2016 conference, Canon says the ScanFront 400 is suitable for applications across a variety of industries and vertical markets, including finance, legal services, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.
Canon also says the scanner provides a user-friendly touchscreen interface and intuitive features to improve ease-of-use. The ScanFront 400 scanner incorporates a high-definition 10.1 inch color touchscreen that can be used to preview digitized documents during the scanning process to help ensure that information is captured correctly. Through the touchscreen interface, users can choose from a variety of scan destinations to help distribute the information to various locations. The ScanFront 400 device may also be configured to display pre-configured job buttons for frequently used scan operations. Users can also create address books to pre-register scan destinations of various types, or simply connect to an existing LDAP directory service.
The scanner can scan both sides of a document in a single pass at up to 45 ppm. The scanner is also is capable of processing up to 6,000 documents per day, and features an automatic document feeder that fits up to 60 sheets, and can handle a variety of document types of different sizes and consistencies, including receipts, driver licenses, photographs, invoices, contracts, and even passports (using an optional carrier sheet). Users can send scanned documents to email addresses, a shared folders, fax, USB drives, FTP servers, and printers, individually or simultaneously.
In addition to being named the first scanner in its product category to achieve EPEAT Gold rating, the ScanFront 400 device is also Energy Star-certified, meeting the energy-efficiency requirements of the program, and complies with both the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) directive, for the reduction of hazardous substances and their potential impacts on the environment.
The ScanFront Administrator tool, included with the scanner, allows IT managers to manage up to 1,000 ScanFront scanners remotely through centralized-management capabilities. IT managers can view status, update device firmware, back-up and restore configurations, and more to help ensure that all ScanFront devices in the scanner fleet are configured uniformly and functioning properly. The ScanFront 400 device features log-in device access and also supports Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP over SSL (LDAPS) to help provide secure user authentication.
The Canon imageFORMULA ScanFront 400 is now available; an optional Software Development Kit (SDK) is available for third-party integration development efforts, including customized business application and workflow integration, connectivity, and branding.
