Ricoh SP 6430DNRicoh Americas today introduced a new black-and-white desktop printer rated at up to 38 ppm, the SP 6430DN ($1,399 MSRP), that uses new Ricoh’s new LED-printing technology (a toner-based technology) that it says delivers 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution without loss of print speed. As an A3 printer, the new printer can print on media up to 11″ x 17″. It also features mobile printing from smartphones and tablets with the RICOH Smart Device Print&Scan app. An optional Ricoh App for Google Cloud Print enables the printer to support Google Cloud Print, which makes the printer available on the Web to owners and selected users for mobile printing.

Compact at 18″ x 15.5″ x 14″,  the printer may be equipped with three optional paper trays for a maximum paper capacity of 2,100 sheets. A two-component supply design enables separate changing of the toner cartridge and imaging drum. There’s also standard automatic duplex printing, an ECO-Night Sensor that powers the device down when the lights are turned off, and low energy consumption. The printer is Energy Star-compliant, and received the EPEAT Gold rating for the Untied States.

Security options for the  SP 6430DN include the USB Device Server, which lets users access a second restricted network to help safeguard sensitive information. And the optional hard disk drive can be enabled so that users must enter a passcode at the printer’s control panel in order to release print jobs for printing.
