Canon will be selling 3D Systems’ ProJet 1200, 3500 series, 4500, 6000 and 7000 in the beginning of March 2015, and says it will eventually expand selling across Europe. The firm says the new partnership reflects Canon’s ongoing growth strategy of expansion into new technology, and builds on the 3D Systems’ distribution agreement with Canon Marketing Japan announced in late 2013. Under that agreement, Canon agreed to join 3D Systems network of resellers and market 3D Systems’ professional 3D-imaging products in Japan.

The 3D Systems 3D printers Canon will sell are designed for prototyping for rapid product development, and will target the engineering, manufacturing, and architectural market segments.

Jeppe Frandsen, head of Canon Europe’s Production Printing Group, commented, “This partnership, together with Canon’s own significant investment in R&D, reflects both our long-term commitment to 3D printing and our ongoing dedication to deliver advanced technology and support to our customers to help them improve the performance and profitability of their businesses.” Research and advisory company, Gartner, has predicted that end-user spending on 3D printers is expected to increase from $1.6 billion in 2015 to around $13.4 billion in 2018.

Another office-equipment vendors, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., began selling 3D Systems’ 3D printers through its office-equipment dealer channel in June 2014.
